I closed the tailgate today as usual. Later went to open it and couldn't. From the inside, I was able to get to the latch, but what I've tried (see picture) doesn't release the latch. Is there a way to remove the latch while the tailgate is closed? Or any other suggestions on how to get it open?

2010 Jeep Patriot Hatch/Liftgate will not open
So today my liftgate randomly stopped opening. It unlocks but it seems like the handle isnt pulling anything and feels loose. Is there anyway remove the panel and check it out with out being able to open the lift gate? Ive looked everywhere but can't find any info. Thank you in advance
