I want to replace the front/back door speakers that came with my 2013 Patriot/Latitude. I did not purchase the Boston Acoustic Premium sound system so I just have the base system.

I was interested in the Rockford Fosgate but when I plug in my variables on Amazon and/or Crutchfield it says it will not fit my car. Can anyone help? I'm also getting conflicting info as to the speaker size I need...some say 6 x 9 and others 6 x 5.
Was also considering Kickers, but consensus seems to favor Rockford.

Thanks!

Crutchfield doesn't carry them anymore and I'm a bit leery of ordering from a no name vendor on Amazon that says they won't fit. Is it possible there's a newer model? Or would I be safer ordering Kickers or Pioneer?

I think the new model is prime 1694 and NHPatriot has a thread on these speakers as well. I actually have the 1693s in my front doors so they fit.

Yes, the 1693 and 1694 RF Prime's do fit the front and rear doors. 1693's are no longer made( but still available ). Crutchfield is no longer carrying the 1694's for some reason.

This is my speaker thread. I have Premium Sound but it would still help out some.

These instructions are great NHPatriot.

I found the Rockford Fosgate Power T1693 speakers at another vendor called Sonic Electronix. They don't offer nice instructions and adapters like Crutchfield but Crutchfield doesn't carry these speakers anymore. Do I need to purchase separate adapters so they fit? And if so, any idea which?

In this day an age of Internet and Google we forget that the easiest thing is to simply take a look Don't believe they hype take off the speaker cover and you'll discover for yourself that they are nothing but a 6x9 speaker. Any 6x9 speaker will fit no matter what

Thanks MannyR. Who knew it could be so easy?

Now I'm wondering if my head unit is powerful enough for these speakers. It's the regular factory installed one that came with the car. Not premium sound system.

All I can say is watch your depth, i dont know what it is on the pat but crutchfield can probably tell you. Some speakers now a days have huge magnets. My yota had a problem I had cut a spacer out of plywood. Luckly it fit behind the door panel. In my old chevy had to cut the grills of the panels so i had enough depth.

You can still get the Prime R1693 and R1694 series speakers if you look around online. They fit the doors no problem. You should buy the Crutchfield adapters though.

EDIT - wiring harness adapters

eBay my friend. I've had all sorts of door speakers. And whoever said they all fit is true to an extent. Not all of them are drop ins. Those rockfords are for sure. If you don't want to buy/can't find the adapters, that's not a problem. Just cut the factory harness and strip the wires. I have the diagram info for polarity. The depth really isn't an issue unless you're doing the rear doors and you have manual windows. The cable is literally JUST behind the speaker location, so a big enough motor (magnet) WILL rub this cable. The front doors need some trimming of plastic just behind the doors if you get a speaker with a wider basket design.

I just put some Alpine type-r in mine. Very happy with them, small magnet and made of a composite so very light. Fit in the patriot with plenty of room to spare.

ALPINE SPR-69

Nice bass and treble, I'm only powering them with a JVC head unit and the volume is more than adequate but, they can handle much more power if I ever wanted to add an amp.

Thanks everybody. Great info. I guess it sounds more difficult than it really is although I do think I'll need to purchase a door panel remover just to be safe.

Does anyone think I need a new head unit or will the factory radio be able to handle the power? I have a 2013 Patriot.

Unless you want to go ghetto and blow the windows out the stock head unit should be fine. Lots of people upgrade the stock speakers with the RF's and are happy with the results using the stock head unit.

Pjmalone........great thread, and great answers fellas.....I am in the exact position as pj

Would just like to add one thing....what if one does not have speakers on the rear tailgate.....does it need a specific housing?

And, how good is the bass on the speakers on these speakers?

Well the speakers aren't making the power, the radio is. So if you're sticking with basic 4-ohm speakers, nothing is changing as far as power goes. If you were to get 2-ohm speakers, you could probably gain a little extra power but nothing significantly noticeable. The biggest difference from stock to aftermarket is a greater frequency response and having a dedicated driver(s) to reproduce a given frequency range. If an aftermarket source unit interests you, go for it. Having a "ghetto" window shattering sub-stage has nothing to do with it. It's nice to have options for better sound processing, imaging, headroom for amplifier upgrades or even just simple Bluetooth, video playback and/or navigation. The limit is your wallet and patience.

To make it factory you need the entire premium sound tailgate trim and speaker housing parts( not to mention wiring it ). It is different than the regular tailgate trim. Unless you can find it used you are looking at a LOT of money to buy the pieces new. You could try and flush mount some speakers in your current tailgate trim but you would have to make sure before cutting the holes that you have the room in behind you need so measure twice and cut once.

If you want to add the factory parts then these pieces are needed( prices shown are list for gray - beige is a little cheaper )...

1 - Tailgate trim panel = $152
2 - Outer speaker housing panel = $194
3 - Inner speaker housing panel = $189
4 - Speaker housing w/ grilles = $187
5 - Speaker housing handle = $37.45
6 - Speaker housing hinge = $43.20

Note - there are also screws, clips, etc... that will be needed as well as the speakers. As mentioned you will have to run wiring back to them as well.

Parts breakdown...

Of course it does. It is extremely important to what he wants from his sound system.

If the guy wants a really loud, bass thumping, car rocker then the stock head unit is not adequate plus he will need an amp and such. Very relavent to the discussion.

If he just wants to improve the sound quality at a minimal cost and with minimal work all he needs is speakers.

The way it came across looked as if you were implying that an aftermarket source unit isn't necessary unless you want to shake sidewalks. Yes, speakers are a great start, but sound starts from the source. ;)
