Is it bad that the more I watch it...the more I kinda like the trail Hawk  The headlight things look like angry yellow eyes squinting at you like a "get the f*ck outa my way" type stare and the back end is pretty bland but idk why it's growing on me. I don't like the other options ebcause the Trail Hawk is the only one that has the Graphite/Charcoal/Mineral Gray painted stuff. I wonder what it's prices will be like? Maybe in a little over a year trade Kaity's car in for one >:-]

If my research was correct...FDII Patriots have 9.1" of ground clearance. ALL THE MK HATERS OUT THERE CAN SUCK IT! I will never ever hate on MK's after owning one. I loved Lee-Roy and I know for sure that she could've handled that terrain so damn easy it isn't even funny. I bet I wouldn't even need to engage 4wd lock for 90% of the terrain that thing was on.

Dixiedawg, I'm betting the Cherokee's clearance is better than the Patriot's overall. Don't go by numbers. Remember the trail rated Pat as armor all along the bottom, which severely limits its overall off-road performance. I haven't seen the armor of the Cherokee, but I'm betting it isn't a flat surface under the vehicle.

"Mike Manley mentioned, almost as a throwaway comment, that the light blue Jeep Cherokee, shining brilliantly under a spotlight in the corner of the room, had recently run the Hell’s Revenge trail at Moab. Rated moderate-to-difficult and not recommended for beginners, the trail has long, steep climbs on sandstone, with a lot of sand, as well as boulder fields and “many” spots where it’s easy to accidentally roll over."

"We figured that any outer damage would have been dealt with, but that we could get a small measure of the Cherokee’s fitness by looking for damage underneath. Most of the Jeep was spotless, underneath and above, but we could see a heavy scrapes on one skid plate and some various bits of missing paint, evidence of tackling a tough trail. There was no sign of real damage, and some onlookers were surprised at how substantial the skid plates were."

Eeek...the Anvil color doesn't look so hot on that model, does it?

Hoosier, I have seen the underside in a video. It is fairly flat (which is typical of FWD vehicles. That 8.7" is listed as the running ground clearance, while the Patriot's 9.1" is its running clearance (Not minimum clearance)

Capabilities and cargo space seems ok, not much clearance bothers me. I'm a pretty basic kind of guy, there are things I need from a vehicle, if I like the looks too it's a bonus.

Now if Jeep wants a quick easy new commercial, they can bring one up my driveway today. I even volunteer to drive.

I am not super excited about the exterior. Mainly because the front is butt ugly. Other than the front/grille though it looks ok to me. Very similar to the Equinox and Terrain which I like.

However, I visited the Jeep site and looked at the info they have up and saw some interior shots. I LIKE the interior from what I can see a lot. Looks like they did a great job on the interior. My only question is will it be as roomy as the Patriot inside or smaller? If it is smaller I would pass but if it is the same or better I would be very interested.

I like that it has a V6 option( 271 HP 3.2L Pentastar ), has a 4500lbs tow capacity( V6 anyway ), and has decent MPG #'s( 29-31 Higwhay ). I am intrigued by this new rear axle design that allows it to fully disengage when not in 4WD to help MPG.

What I am waiting to see( other than a 1st hand look to see how roomy it is )is what is the MSRP on these going to be? Is this going to be crazy expensive like the Rav4, Equinox/Terrain, and Pilot or will it be more reasonable like a Patriot and Compass? My guess is more than a Patriot and Compass. How much more though?

The Jury is still out but I am liking it more.

Just throwing around some ideas here, but this is a larger class of vehicle than the Patriot and FWD based, so it should be much roomier than the Patriot.

Also, according the Jeeps web site the Sport model does not come with A/C standard, which tells me they are aiming at a lower entry price for the New Cherokee. I bet the Sport starts at $22k with a loaded Limited or Trailhawk hitting $35k... but we'll see. Maybe someone will come out with a decent body kit for the front end?

That first video was very good! Thanks for sharing that man.

I kind of agree, I feel like I'll actually sort of like the Trailhawk in person. Would I own one? F*ck no I have a Wrangler but it's definitely the better looking of all it's models.

Again, thanks for sharing the vids man!

It replaces the Liberty so it should be more comparable to that vehicle, which is bigger than the Patriot.

Freedom Drive already does this exact same thing. The new system is supplied by American Axle and is called "Active Drive." You have the option of AD I, AD II, or AD L (L = Lock).

AD I uses a PTU with a wet clutch, very similar to Freedom Drive.

AD II adds a planetary gear set to the PTU which provides a 2.92:1 gear reduction.

AD L (only on the trail hawk) takes AD II and adds in a locking rear axle which can be engaged when in low range.

All of these systems use Jeep's selec-terrain system, which gives you up to 5 different modes. Standard, Sport, Snow, Mud/Sand, Rock.

Standard aims to keep the thing in FWD but will apply power to the rear as it detects slip.

Sport aims for a 40/60 (F/R) split while cutting back on stability and traction contron.

Snow starts the Jeep out in second gear from a start ramps up traction control and aims for a 60/40 split.

Mud/Sand aims for 0/100 split and cuts back on the traction control

Rock is only available on AD II (maybe only the trail hawk) locks the rear diff ( AD L remember) and turns on a brake locker system (taps the brake on the spinning tire) on the front axle.

Look at the current Liberty prices, add a couple grand, you got base price. My bet is going to be it starts at around $25k.

I still have to see one in person before I say I like or hate the styling. In the pictures, I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I think people are caught up on the name plate and thought the XJ should have been brought back with no updates or changes. I hated the 2014 Grand until I saw it in person, now I like it. I sorta like the new Cherokee in pictures so... we'll see.

But from a technology perspective, from the interior, and from the spec sheet. I really REALLY like it.

Approach angle:
2014 Cherokee TH: 29.9
2012 Liberty: 29 (39.1 if you follow Jeep's instructions and remove the air dam, nobody has said if it is removable on the TH, my bet is no)
2012 Patriot: 29

Breakover
TH: 22.9
L: 20.4
P: 23.7

Departure
TH: 32.2
L: 32.1
P: 33.9

Ground Clearance
TH: 8.7"
L: 7.8"
P: 9.1"

The numbers are all right in line with where they should be.

oh and I forgot to mention.... YAY FOR KEEPING THE SKY SLIDER!!!

Have you ever been in a Liberty? The vehicle may be bigger but the inside is tiny. I can barely fit in the driver's seat of a new Liberty and close the door. My head hits the roof, my knees hit the dash, and I feel like a Sardine in a can side to side. The Patriot has way more room for me. It isn't even close.

Isn't the new Cherokee based off the Dart platform? I have sat in a Dart and it is roomier than a Liberty despite being a little car.

Look at the current Liberty prices, add a couple grand, you got base price. My bet is going to be it starts at around $25k.
If so that is too high. My Patriot stickered for less than $25K and is a Latitude with all kinds of extras. Even a sunroof. $25K for the base entry point will take it out of consideration for me. Needs to be down in the low $20K range so I could get a moderately optioned one for $26-$28K( max ) or I will pass.

One other factor for me as well is I will wait at least a year+ after it is out and on the road to decide. I don't want to buy a 1st year release again. Did it one time( 2005 Toyota Tacoma = POS LEMON! ) and it was a disaster. If I see one in person and it is reasonably priced, roomy enough, and I decide I like it well enough to buy I will wait until at least the 2nd year release to let the bugs get worked out.
