I tell you, the same thing happened to me....the dealer replaced the computer, no problems since!

Sounds to me like a short in the electronic throttle controls.

If you want a vehicle for long distance, high temperature conditions, higher elevation, steep climbs, the Patriot is NOT a good choice. I would stick with a Wrangler or Cherokee. If your Patriot will only remain in town, it may be OK, but be careful out of town."
Horse puckey. That's just plain silly. You've just described my every day commute in the hot summer of the rocky mtns. My 08' pat and now my 11' pat trudge on like a champs. (Sorry you're part of the 1% lemon group. That does suck)

i also disagree
have taken (2) 4000 mile road trips through various conditions,
never a problem
have been in +100 temp days and not a problem

am also a regular in cold snowy weather, and pat handles it just fine

also do some light offroading with it without a problem

118k miles, very little problems
its not just a commuter car

No problems whatsoever on my April 2011 Jeep Riot'

I own a 2011 JEEP Patriot 2.4L built date is April 2011. Just crossed over 20K two weeks ago. Temps she has seen are in the ranges of 40-degrees to 110-degrees, no problems. I go every two to three months to Nevada from L.A. and pick her up in the excess of 75MPH-85MPH, no problems. Done trail off roading/ shooting treks in the desert of Cali and Nevada grounded alot of times, no problems of muffler sticking or shut-offs. Other posters are correct you have a lemon, let the dealer and possibly Chrysler fix your issues or problems. Good luck bub. :)

Wow, this is definitely an unfortunate situation. I've had nothing but great luck with Patriot(s.)

In terms of reliability. I had taken my 2011 on eight trips from Chicago to Rochester Minnesota. I had also done at least two trips to South Carolina and one to Florida. My 2011 ran so flawlessly that I upgraded to a 2012. As a matter of fact, I just returned from a 600 mile trip in the new Pat.

My 2011 had about 21,700 miles....

Here is my old one for sale.....http://www.marinochryslerjeepdodge....t/certified/Jeep/2011-Jeep-Patriot-chicago-3ca21c390a0a0065008abf349309388d.htm

It sounds like from the above responses that maybe, it's a fuel or computer issue. I think the key is having a dealer that's willing to work with you. At the same time, having a new car die out like that is pretty darn scary and frustrating. I would be absolutely livid if that happened to me. So once again, sorry to hear about your experience. :(

1% lemonade! It happens!
Funny, we are thinking MK #2 before they go away forever.
2.4 under powered? Now that is funny!

Sworn, shame you didn't stop in FL and sell that to me.

I was thinking fuel pump myself, though a vapor lock situation seems more reasonable...of course a line short would be a bear to track down.

My experience with Jeep fuel pumps is this. You will usually get a BURP at highway speed and just blow it off. 3 months later it strands you. They NEVER come back to life once they go.

We had a VW fuel-injected Rabbit in the late '70s that had vapor lock issues whenever you tried to start it hot. Never stranded though.

I'd make lemonade out of it. Send it back!

PS We did have a BURP a few months back, but who knows, maybe it was nothing?

An electrical short circuit leads to blown fuses, open relays or fire. An intermittent open circuit may never be located.

....other than old spark plug wires shorting on the block when it rains.

Our engine failed on our 2010 PAT three months after we bought it, during a road trip in the winter. I was 5 months pregnant and no one wanted to pick us up to take us an hour into town. The error lights on the dash just started going on one by one. We kept driving as long as we could but my husband had to use the restroom. As soon as we stopped the vehicle wouldn't turn on again. We live up in Northern Canada. Towns are very few and far between. Cel phones don't work unless you are in a town. Thank god for roadside assistance who drove out there and brought the car into the city but they were never able to tell us what the problem was. That was just the beginning of issues with our PAT. I am constantly terrified it will die on the highway with our two year old in -40 weather. Will be trading this vehicle in come spring time

There is a recall for this. I took mine in for the recall, and thankfully they told me that my car was not one of them. This is for all 2011 and 2012 owners. The recall states for 11-12 Pats, and I advise everyone who owns an 11-12 Pat to take it to the dealer, and ask about the recall, so you know your ok.

Do you have a link for the recall? I haven't seen it and can't find anything on the web. The last one I seen posted was from April for a faulty fuel rollover valve.
It seems the rollover valve and stalling problems are unrelated.

I printed it out, handed it to them, and said to look into it. I dont know how old the article is, but it worked for me. I dont know if it is a recall yet, (now that ive read in to it again) but like I said when I brought it to the dealer, they took it serious. Only cause I had cranking issues, which I thought could be led to it.
