I need some help with fitment and my local DT is not wanting to help with fitment checks. I want to put a 225/70/16 on a 16x8.5 wheel with +18 offset. Is the tire too narrow for this wheel? Is the offset to much toward the negative? I was wondering if anyone had this setup.

My current offset is +39 so if my calculations are correct the +18 would move the tire out about 1.5 inches from current location.

Thanks for your help.

Well dealing with just the rim you're gonna have 4mm less clearance on the inside and its going to stick out 46mm further. A 225 tire is about a 8.86" tire. So the tire will fit the rim fine. As to rubbing that I don't know.

Here's a tire and rim sizing tool that may help give you a better idea. Enter the rim and tire setup you have now and what you want to change to. It will compare them and give you statistics and an opinion on fit.

That's really funny to me considering Discount Tire is a supporting vendor here.

Yeah I thought it was funny also. I spent 1600 + on wheels and tires for my Wrangler and when I went in to the same shop to ask questions and see if a particular size tire would fit my Patriot they acted like they didn't have time. I was the only one in the store at the time and a few minutes later it got busy and I was pushed to the end of the line. I guess since I wasn't buying at the time and they would have to order the tires they figured they would wait on the buying customers first.

I called the other DT where I live and asked about wheels that the website says they have in stock. The guy took my information and then checked the computer and said they didn't have the wheels. I told him the website shows you have 4 in stock and he said well we don't have them. I called the original DT and told the Asst. Manager about it and he said let me check on this. He called back about 2 hours later and said yes they have the wheels. I asked him if they would let his store have them (I wanted to do business with him) and he hesitated and said I guess so. Then he said he could have them in 2 days. I was a little perplexed as the stores are about 10 miles apart. By that time I was a little put off with the whole thing and I told him I would call him back which I have not.

I looked at the tire and wheel sizer and it said it will clear the suspension 100% and even give more room than OEM. The new package will stick out 1.2 inches further and only concern is to make sure it will clear the fenders. It will also fill the wheelwell 14mm more which is a half an inch so I think it will fit fine.

Any input??

I come from a world of stretched tires lol. Used to have them on my VW. Had an 8" tire on a 10" wheel lol Used to take corners hard all the time in it never had any issues

Of course i was an idiot back then....
