do you get more lift from the HD coils?

Plumonium,

How about an update since it has been some time? I'm pondering on the idea of getting the Stu coils. My question to you and I'll ask Stu as well: do I need HD coils in the back if I occasionally have a bike rack or four people in the Jeep? I do take the Jeep on the camping trips but it's not loaded like yours :D Is it safe to say just get HD coils?

Hi guys,

So an update: I don't regret my coils what so ever. As some of you might think (Stu included), I don't have my jeep loaded all the time. I do plenty of traveling with it empty. Honestly, I don't remember how soft it used to be. I just blame the road when the ride gets rough. But it is not that bad. I like better to have the loading capacity. If I was to buy the coils again, I would get the HD one. I don't think you will load a set of regular with just a bike rack or 2 adults behind but add them together plus lots of luggage and you'll wish you have the HD coils.

I'm really proud of my Patriot and my coils are doing really well.

I'm open to more question if you have some :)

P.S: another Patriot overtook us on the highway this week-end and the guy braked to get back to our height and pointed my yellow coils with his finger showing his girlfriend. Nice!

Thanks P,

I think I'm all set in the questions department as I emailed Stu at the same time as I posted here. I hope Stu wouldn't mind me posting his reply.

Gday Alex!

All of our Patriot Coils are in stock The price is $535AU shipped to your door for the whole kit of 4 coils.

We changed the design of the rear coils some time ago and only offer the one rear coil now and it is the HD constant load version. It sits the Pat up perfectly at around 2” higher than stock.

The ride quality is one of the biggest bonuses too, I really helps the Patriot as it was under sprung from the factory.

So are we now saying that STU coils are only advisable for lifting the Patriot if you run around fully loaded nearly all of the time? I'd like the lift but rarely carry cargo or passengers. Not even sure if these would be available to the UK anyway but just thought I'd ask my question :)

Thanks
Scoops,

No, not necessarily. I asked Stu which coils I should choose as I have it fully loaded only once in a while. He said it will be fine to run HD constant load coils, plus they switched only to produce those any way. Stu ships all over the world. I'm pretty sure he'll ship to UK.

I was all geared up to buy Stu's coils until I found out about the HD only rears. Since it's usually just me in the car, they don't seem like the best purchase.

I've decided on getting the RROs after my bank account has recovered from the car purchase and insurance. One of the many perks I'm looking forward to with the RROs is maintaining my nice 2011 spring rates and ride comfort. Also, I will get an additional 2" of rebound on a suspended strut compared to stiffer springs. Minimum clearance will also be 2" higher than with stiffer springs. This means that bigger tyres could be run without tucking up too far into the guard as well. Although in Australia you can only legally run 15mm taller tyres in any case - which means you can go one size wider only, if you want to be legal.

I took off the RRO Kit and went with Stus Coils on my 2007 Patriot. Better ride for an 07. I don't know about the Newer Patriots ride. When I switched to Stus Coils I didn't put HDs on the Rear. I guess He has changed some things. I'm Happy with Stus Coils.

Ok so i'm new to all the lingo and what not did alil research just to get on page Lolll but i have just 2 questions for now, What would happen if you were to only replace the front two coils? & are there any coils out there besides stu's HD stuff that can lift 2" but provide couple notches of less stiffness, so basicly more spring space to reple kenetic energy without the stiffness?

I am running the newest version of Stu's Coils, love them, had the RRO on an 07 Compass, they were squeakie and creakie. Coil swap makes more sense from my engineering background, no additional change in parts, can carry more of a load, just make sure you do an alignment and use adjustable front camber bolts

Other than the height advantage which I did like everything else, the ride, handling, and breaking was a disappointment. Your not going to lift the patriot 2'' and not have a negative affect somewhere else. I would definitely take the safer route as I did the second time around and go with the 2011 or 2012 4x4 springs. Just my .02 cents.

Stus Coils on 07 Pat

2007 FD II limited vin code :W CVT 104,500 Miles since 28 feb 08 original owner. Love the coils ride more firm like a lift kit should be. Steering sharp and crisp. Kind of reminds me of a go kart now. Have drilled and slotted rotors on the brakes (since 60,000 miles) great stopping. Stops the same as before no nose dive. Only thing between 10-20 miles an hour I get a shudder in the front CVs inner I'm almost sure of. I don't know how much travel the inner CVs have for in and out. I may be at my max out travel but all smooths out above 20 miles an hour. You feel it more on a upward hill going slow downward no problems. Maybe need to get new cv axles. Position where they ride now is not the same as before. Inclued are Pics I own 2 07 Pats red w/28,000 and black w/ 105,000 miles now and w/ the coils. A solid 3" lift. New KYBs f&b, New Ball joints, new tie rod ends, inners are tight ( changes out ball joints and tie rod ends because of the high miles and did not want to go in at a later date//// But they were all tight) and of course the coils. Maybe will get CV shafts altered to a little bit longer and a higher angle joint. Will post again when new axles are installed.

Time for Change?

Looks like the '07 Riot may be in need of some springs or shocks/struts.
Original suspension other than the RRO lift, which has been flawless since day one. No squeaks, rattles, nada!

I did notice that I have lost about an 1" of clearance to my belly pan, use to be close to 11", now about 10". Tires shocks/struts? Or is it coil springs as well? The fronts can bottom out under extreme moments, more specifically my side/driver side, I'm 200 lbs, my wife and dog total out at 180 lbs, but no other load in the dirt.

I haven't thought about removing the RRO lift even once, even though I see some folks here have, but I'd like to hear what you all think...you to Stu.

If you lost an inch, its from springs settling and tires wearing. Shocks and struts have nothing to do with height (unless they have airbags). The shocks limit your bounce, and even 30 lbs of weight will cause one to slowly compress all the way. Now if you apply 30 lbs quickly, the shocks will hold it... then gradually droop. The springs will have everything to do with how much droop you have and how much weight the Jeep will hold without sinking too much. I replaced my coils with STU's so that it won't droop and to hold up a trailer a little better :smiley_thumbs_up:

Any updates on these springs over the years? When adding these springs has anyone added plus length shocks/struts?

Rear Sagging

Does anyone have any suggestions for affordable heavy duty rear coils? Do not need or want to raise the whole suspension dramatically. Pull a boat and haul outdoor gear in rear and want to get some rear ride height back. Do not want another set of soft factory rear coils.

09 Patriot FWD Sport 2.0 Nothing special just great gas mileage I want to maintain. 32 MPG @ 55 MPH on highway once warm with 0W-30 Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter in summer and 0W-20 Mobil 1 in winter. 37 PSI 215/65 R16 BFGoodrich Touring T/A, Yakima Rocket Box on Factory Aero Bars always installed.
