2007 Limited FD1 5-spd, so heated leather seats, steering wheel audio controls, power windows/locks/keyless entry. You can still order a Limited with every option you want in a 2011 FDI.

I can baby it and never shift over 2000rpm, or redline the first 4 gears.

I test drove a Compass Rallye Limited FD1 with about 4k higher MSRP than mine, but didn't want it.

The brakes and clutch share the same fluid reservoir...

I would NOT own this vehicle with an auto. Way too low on power to have the thing constantly downshifting. My wife drives a loaded sport w 5 speed. Heated cloth, good stereo, power everything. Its a pretty fun little jeep and 26-28 mpg 4x4 is unbelievable. I think when my truck dies I'll get her a Grand and drive the Pat. Got the lifetime power train so want to keep it until it rusts into the driveway!

I want to add a little data - while I love my 5 spd Pat, I really have regretted owning it.

At 5,000 mi, I was having a big problem shifting into 2nd and 3rd. They were grinding, no matter what I did. So I took it in to my local dealership, who diagnosed it and replaced the (entire) transmission under warranty. They claimed that the problem was bad synchro calibration. So I didn't sweat it.

Then again at 20,000 mi, the same problem came back. I took it in. They blamed my driving habits as the root of the problem, right before they charged me $2600 for the install. I didn't pay for it, and apparently the warranty is conditional.

I am now at 40,000 and once again am having the same problem. My local transmission shop dropped the transmission and opened it up. It is destroyed, and now I'm trying to find another replacement.

You got the lemon bud, hate it for you, I bet there is more issues with cvt's than the manuals tho. You ought to come over on Challengertalk and see the nutty crap we have to go thru with issues, my challenger r/t's passenger window phantomly rolls down on me sometimes when I hit a bump, just discovered it about a month ago after owning the car for a year. The part thats worse than that is the camaro and mustang supposedly have worse problems. My Patriot also leaks in the rear hatch so thats another kick in the nuts mother mopar has gotten on me. Chrysler so they say is improving on reliability, but I bet the Pat won't before its demise shortly.

One post and this is it? Just so we know this is for real, and not from the Toyota dirty tricks committee, where do you live and what dealer would not honor the factory 30,000 mile warranty?

I have a 5 speed and used to have a cvt in my old compass which was garbage. I worried that my 5 speed will have the same problem, cause sometimes i get that 3rd gear grind. Also I took it in for some suspension sqeaks and was told that since my jeep had mud on it that the bent control arm was my fault, also chrysler wouldnt pay for it. srive a squeaky jeep.

Man all these 'problems' I keep reading about have me sh***ing my pants.

I have a 5 speed as well (2008 with 74,000km's). It is what I wanted. Being my other option was a CVT just solidified my decision.

Love it. It is not the smoothest shifting vehicle I have ever had, but it shifts cleanly. I agree that it can be a bit sensitive from a dead stop, but otherwise it is great. I feel the basic interior, slightly choppy, but compliant ride the feel of the gears and engine really make it feel like a true Jeep.

Don't worry. Despite hearing about what seem to be lots of issues on this forum, overall, the Patriot is Jeep's most reliable vehicle and rates pretty well on various sites for that.

I drove both before ordering, and chose the 5 MT. But, I wonder if the CVT with additional ratios would have been better for me. There is a bigger gap between 4th and 5th than I like in the Texas Hill Country.

In 2008, the lifetime powertrain warranty covered the CVT but not the clutch on the 5 MT.

Try to drive both.

I don't own a Jeep yet, but for the last month I've been going out and test driving them almost every night. I'm having a very, very hard time finding a Patriot with a manual tranny and 4x4, there's only a few in a 250km radius around me and none in the colour I like. Seems there are a lot more manuals with 4x2 out there though.

That being said, I've had lots of opportunity to try both the CVT transmission and I've driven several with a manual. The CVT lacks power, it just felt weak. Mind you I've been driving a mustang for years so I'm used to some balls but I don't get the same wimpy feeling out of the same engine that has a stick. So there's no way I'm giving up and going with a CVT after all this searching.'

If I had the cash I'd build one new, but that's more than I'm willing to spend on a car. It saddens me that the Liberty doesn't even come with a manual option anymore. For one that's truly meant to off road it stuns me that they'd stop offering it. The same can be said about most SUVs and Crossovers, I had considered a Honda CR-V as well but they only come with this bizarre center mounted auto transmission -- no thanks! If this trend continues, I may find myself having to get an automatic somewhere down the road :(

Don't waist your money on this POS

Don't do it; the Patriot sucks. Transmission dies at 100k; drive shafts quit at 20k, squeaking noise in the rear has to be fixed every 6-8 months, It lives more in the garage costing a S**t load of money.

2014 2.4L Sport, FWD 5 Speed Manual, 24K Minnesota miles. RPM momentary climbs when off gas to shift (throttle lag) biggest complaint for me. Opened a ticket with Jeep but still won't resolve. I've learned to drive the Jeep the way it's tuned vs. me pushing it the way I'd like.

Nice to see someone else in snow country who isn't afraid to own a FWD Patriot. :smiley_thumbs_up:

Didn't quite understand your problem. How do climbing RPMs lead to throttle lag? I'd think the opposite -- you'd be mashing gears. Please explain.

Don't sweat. these things are pretty reliable overall.

I'm thinking our Patriot 5-spd shifts as smooth as butter. Clutch chatters in reverse on a hill but how often do I do that? My first car chattered no matter what -- after driving that everything else was a cinch.

Sensitive from a stop? Well, I usually start in 2nd unless I'm on a hill. 1st is just too low to be practical.

I'll hit 200,000 miles before my next oil change. These things are awesome in the snow, great mileage for a 4wd and the engines are very sound. I plan on getting at least another 100k out of mine. I will say that I'm on my third manual transmission though. They simply aren't as sturdy and manuals of the past.
I'd recommend purchases the added care plus lifetime warranty to anyone. The cost of the warranty is nil compared to any major repair and as long as you keep up with your maintenance you'll never have to worry about repairs. They've paid for both of my transmission replacements with no problem.
