I am in the process of picking up a 2010 Jeep Patriot. It has 283 miles and is being sold from a Jeep dealership as a used vehicle. My question is they told me that the windshield and moldings was replaced due to damage and the car has to be sold as used. Is it possible that the truck is being sold as used and not knew because of a windshield? and do you think that they replaced the windshield because it can be one of those water leaky trucks? Thanks in advance

hard to say.
from what you say it might have been damaged when loaded or unloaded from the transport vehicle.
ask the dealer who drove the 283 miles.
maybe it wqas a demo car and the windscreen just got smashed or cracked, and that's that.
ask about the what kind of damage and see what they say.

Or if the title has been registered it is used.

No, it's never been titled. He showed me the damage disclosure form and all it said was replace windshield and side mouldings. What do you guys think?
where do the 283 miles come from?
the windshield and moldigs could have been changed for lots of reasons.

by side moldings you mean the black ones at the side of the windshield?

Yes, The car originally had 40 miles on the odometer many months ago. The salesman said that everytime they show the disclosure form to the potential customer the deal falls through. You can't blame them as most stealerships can not be trusted. The Pat I'm picking up next week is a 2010 Sport with a 5 speed, A/C, and also has the power group. All for 15,000. I thought that was a steal especially knowing that used Pats are asking for 15000. Original asking price was 16000.

Probably vandalism. Might be weather damage, but you would think there would be sheet metal damage as well.

Will you get the full new car warranty? If yes, I think you would be OK. If not then and you want the car then ask them to provide a warranty.

2 years and 3 months ago I had to get a new windshield from an autoglass shop. They put in a "real Seal" because they didn't like the factory setup on the OEM windshield. I also bought a 2 year windshield insurance policy which was far cheaper than the glass coverage on my comprehensive auto policy. I mentioned the 3 months because now I need another new windshield at retail price. I did get a couple of free rock chip repairs. Years ago I had an insurance company drop my insurance because of windshield claims and not accidents. Cracked windshields are a fact of life with winter highway driving in Alberta and BC.

I don't know where you're from, renospatriot, but in my state a vehicle is 'new' until its titled. Can you get a carfax report? Even so, $15,000 is cheap money for a Patriot. If it were me I'd go for it. For the money you save you can find a way to solve a lot of problems (and deep in my heart I doubt -- hope you won't -- have them).

By now, hasn't Jeep figured out the reason why some Patriots leak? Is this still a problem for 2010s? I have a 2008 and nary a leak. :)

I love my 08 and with the life-time warranty, I'll probably drive it to the ground. Its crossed my mind to trade for a new one before they stop making the Patriot, and so the leak question crosses my mind. Then I think to myself, most Patriots don't leak. Of course those that do have a problem and I can't blame the owners for squawking. Sage advice: Take your test drive through a car wash!

I've not heard much about leaks around the windshield, mostly those were from sun roofs, and some from the rails on the roof. If it were me, and was a substantial discount, with a full warranty, I'd go for it.

If I were to purchase a 2011 Jeep Patriot sport with A/C, power windows in a 5 speed it would cost me in the neighborhood of 19,500 this includes destination charge. The model I am looking at is exactly as the one mentioned but a 2010 model for 15,000 + tax with only 283 miles.

As Dixie stated, most of the leaks were from the sunroofs and roof side seams, and most of the reported issues were from 2007-early 2009 models. Very few 2010 models had leak issues (from what I recall). Just replacing the windshield seems odd, but if you are getting full warranty like new, at used prices I'd say you found a steal. Only thing I can think you could do extra is maybe have an independent body shop, that does frame straightening, check it out. If it was in a collision, they'll find the tell tale signs of repair. Might cost you a few hundred bucks, but could save you thousands if it checks out good, or years of headaches if there's a problem.

I will have them put that in the contract that it was never painted or any collision work performed on this vehicle. I asked them already if any body or paint work was done and they told me absolutely no. If all goes well I will be picking up the Jeep this Saturday.

you're still not telling who put up the miles.
