Has anyone bought generic or non name brand cross rails for their pat? i found a few at discountramps.com and was wondering if they fit or work. i dont want to spend alot of money on yakima or thule cross bars
Love to see a photo of your 2x4 crossbar setup.I am currently using 2x4's to load things on the roof.
Nothing big to it, I don't even have a particular setup. When I use the 2x4's I just place what I need to carry on top of the 2x4's and strap them down tight with racket straps. When the straps are tight the 2x4's don't move. At first I wanted to find a way to mount them to the roof rails, but then thought that even when painted black it might look a little low class.Love to see a photo of your 2x4 crossbar setup.
For that 1.5" clamp height, just use a spacer to raise the bar up so the clamps grab just under our side rails. Go to a local glass shop and ask for some old rubber setting blocks. They usually have 1/4" thick hard rubber ones.I am in the same process of looking for cross bars. I am currently using 2x4's to load things on the roof. I've been looking everywhere and most of the universal cross bars like the ones found on the website you posted do not work for our Patriot. The space between the bottom of our side rail and the roof is a 1/2 inch, most of these universal ones need a minimum of 1.5 inches or more so the tightening/locking mechanism will not fit our rails, look at the link that shows the clearance needed for one of the $49 cross bars shown on the page you found http://www.discountramps.com/cargoImages/roof-bar-2.jpg bummer.. The best that I have found is this http://www.a1-autoracks.com/thule-railing-crossbars.html its thule but it's the cheapest thule you will find I will save up to buy them, so I can get rid of the 2x4's good luck...
Thats a good idea, now I feel kind of dumb for not thinking of that first. For that 1.5" clamp height, just use a spacer to raise the bar up so the clamps grab just under our side rails. Go to a local glass shop and ask for some old rubber setting blocks. They usually have 1/4" thick hard rubber ones.
2x4s on a Jeep are not low-class; its Jeep bling.Nothing big to it, I don't even have a particular setup. Your right, but unfortunately my neighbors have more $ than me. My neighbor to the left has a Mercedes G-class suv and my neighbor to the right has a new Range Rover which he bought because his 2007 lexus suv was to dirty cause he carries his dogs in it, so now the lexus is for carrying the dogs and the Range is for driving with no dogs. And here I am in the middle with my patriot. I love it but am a little embarrassed to use 2x4's I use them if I have to but won't leave them on the patriot.2x4s on a Jeep are not low-class; its Jeep bling.Like a 2x4 bumper or the table model radio I had plugged into the lighter on Wifey's old Wrangler.
