Hello Patriot Enthusiasts!

I'm the owner of a new Jeep 2010 Patriot...really it's for my wife; I drive a 1998 Wrangler sport.
One question though.... we've had the vehicle for four days now and my wife noticed that when she lets off the gas and the speedometer hits 20, the car seems to noticeably down-shift. Is this a problem, or is it that we are just new to the CVT?

Thanks

New to CVT.
This vehicle does a lot of engine braking.
She should be able to develop the feel of the "not accelerating and not slowing down" position of the pedal.

It is definitely most noticeable below 40 MPH.
When going faster than 40 it will coast if you let off the gas.

Saves on brakes but can be annoying in heavy stop-and-go traffic.

I have read many threads on this site regarding cvt and brake . One owner wrote that he had around a 100k mile before a brake job was done. I like the sound of this but brake maintenance and regular service would play a big factor in this many miles before the brakes where replaced.

I'm at 85,000 miles and just had the brakes checked. Dealer says they're still OK. I think this is the most miles I've ever gotten on a set of pads. I'm crediting the CVT because my driving style really hasn't changed.

The CVT takes a little getting used to, especially in snow. In snow I use the auto-stick function so I can sense any traction loss. Aside from that, its just like an automatic without the shifts between gears. Pretty nifty, I think. CVTs also seem to outlast conventional automatics, or at least they have a lower premature failure rate.
