I am a victim of the Jeep LEAK! Chrysler is now giving me the option of trading my 08 for a new one, or buying it back. I have been going backa and forth on either staying with Jeep and going with the Liberty, or taking my business else where. I am leaning toward the Liberty, its larger than the Pat and is more "Jeep" if that makes any sense. My other option would be the new GMC Terrain, Chevy Equinox, or Ford Escape. I like having a 4x4 with the bad winters around here.
WHAT TO DO?????

Go with another Pat...

Well, your other non-Jeep choices would not work for me, not enough clearance, or skid plates, or any off road features.

The Liberty didn't get the mileage I needed, which is one reason I went with the Patriot.

I'm going to consider trading my '08 for an '11 Patriot myself.

I looked at the Liberty, and like the Renegade model, but they were only getting a top of 17 MPG, at least back then.

Here's a look at the new Renegade:

If I were given the option, I'd opt for another Patriot myself. But I'd probably get the FDII model this time. Like Dixie, I also looked at the Liberty (my Dad had the previous body styled Liberty Renegade and I loved it's rugged look), but with the mileage I drive, the fuel economy was key (and my Dad only got 15-17 mpg with his Libby). The GMC Terrain seems like a Patriot rip-off in style to me, plus I doubt there's a whole forum of drivers for it like you have here at JeepPatriot.com! :D

well this seems like a no-brainer, at least for the first part. take Chrysler's offer to swap your 2008 for a brand new 2010. THEN, if you want to get a Liberty you can trade in the brand new 2010 and get a massive trade-in value and shoot for a different vehicle...GMC Terrain, Jeep Liberty, Ford Escape, Chevy Equinox. i'm not sure what you plan on using your SUV for, but the new 2010 Equinox is a VERY nice vehicle and competitively priced

to take Chrysler's cash offer for a vehicle that is 2 1/2 yrs old with who knows how many miles + water damage would be absolutely stupid (excuse my bluntness).

take their offer for a 2010 Patriot swap, then look at your options from there!

Ask yourself these 2 questions, in this order:

1) How important is offroad/4x4 cabaility?
- If it's high, then stick with Jeep. Period.
- If low, go ahead and consider those others. Some of them are very nice vehicles, but none of them will compare with an FDII Pat or Liberty in offroad capability.

2) How important is fuel economy?
- if high, and the answer to #1 is high, then an FDII Patriot. If low, then go with a Liberty.

I was looking at Ford Escapes before I bought my Pat, and was not at all impressed with the ride - it was hard and loud. I didn't love the old Liberty, either, but I have not driven the newer version yet.

Here's the question - other than the water leak, how did you like the Pat? I've got an '09 and have not had any leak issues, so if you were happy with the vehicle, go for the new Pat.

My last Jeep was a Liberty, Patriot makes it look bad

My pat is only FD1 4x4 but outperforms the Liberty that I had previously. City mileage is 3mpg higher that road that I got on the liberty (2006). In beach sand the pat far outperforms the liberty. I would have preferred the FD II but could not find adjustable seats, cruise, and auto door locks on one at the time of purchase.

if you get any of the new jeep vehicles, will they throw in the life time power train warranty? I now it is not free with purchase but is still an add on. I took my 5000 settlement and put that toward a used wrangler and they gave me all the options for the powertrain and unlimited bumper to bumper options. just don't forget about it.

If given the oportunity by Jeep and could do it without it costing me an arm and a leg I would trade up to the new Liberty Renegade in a heart beat.

Even with if you were getting a straight swap (and they wouldn't do that I don't think), fuel costs and insurance for the Libby will get ya for $100/month at least depending on how much you drive.

Offroad capability though: The Libby Renegade would win hands down.

I would do a straight swap then sell it if you don't want it or just keep it.Financially speaking your better off with a straight swap for a new one just make sure it has comparable options on it.

I have gotten my sunroof leak fixed twice, they can't fix the steering wheel click, and have had the front tie rod's replaced. They can't figure out the rear hatch leak. I called 15 dealers in CT and none have even heard of it. I would go for another Pat myself...it has more room in the back seat than the Liberty. When I started looking for a new vehicle I looked at the Pat and the Liberty and Pat has more room. Specially if you're putting car seats in there.

One problem I have is to do a swap I wont get the exact model I have now since prices increased over the last 2 yrs. Not to mention that I lose my lifetime powertrain warranty.
The buy back amount will be valued at the price it would have been worth at the first time it was seen for servicing (about 2 months old).
I love the look of the Liberty, but like the gas milage of the Pat.

STILL UNDECIDED???????

I have a 2010 Pat and no leaks so far and I do have the sunroof. I did have the heater and air control panel circut board blow and it was covered under the warranty.

I like the Pat and the fuel is great. I would go the 2010 if its even.

When I went through the lemon process, the best option for me was a settlement check. I didn't want another patriot and with my financial situation I really wanted to get out of car payments. There buyback offer would have meant me having to pay chrysler money because the dealership screwed me on my trade. I took the settlement money and bought a 2000 Grand cherokee.
How does the swap work? How do they work the financing if you financed or are still paying on your old patriot?
