2007 jeep patriot 46,000 miles Transmission is unrepairable and after replacing transmission modular 426.00:dead_horse: find out that transmission has to be replaced, jeep corporation will only assist with 2,000.00 for a 7,000.00 repair,, the CVT transmissions are manufactured in China.
After many hours and days of research we are not the only ones having issues seems the transmission is good for about 47,000 miles just enough to get past the sorry 36,000 warranty that jeep offers.
My opinion stay away from these CVT transmissions.
First, like DJMurphy said, the powertrain warranty is 5 years 60,000 miles. And the CVT is covered. So it's strange that you have to pay the repair.

Second, I find the 7000$ quote for a transmission swap unbelievable. I sincerely hope that it's a typo... because I won't buy a Patriot if it costs half the value of the truck just to replace a blown transmission.

I may have a problem. I was on my way home tonight and my pat seemed very slugish like it didn't want to get over 40mph and it wasn't wanting to rev at all. So I manually shifted it, but it still just felt all wrong to me. I've just turned 40,000 miles like 2 weeks ago. I am going to see what it does in the morning. The bad thing is I have a road trip Friday. This is terrible.

CVT nightmare

I also had to have my CVT tranny replaced at about 40,000 km. It started off with a whining noise (like a bad bearing) at 80 km/h that got louder the faster I went.

Went to the dealer no less than 5 times to finally have the tranny replaced. 1st time - bring it back for a full day, 2nd time - bring it back when the tranny guy is here, 3rd time - we have to replace the transfer case, 4th time - replaced the case problem still there, 5th time - replaced tranny.

Near the end the sound started at 20 km/h and was pretty darn loud at highway speeds. Only info I got was that there was a bad bearing.
SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!

About 2 weeks ago I started hearing this whining noise. I thought it would go away. A few days later I noticed that it would get more rapid/louder when I accelerated. I thought it was a wheel bearing. I took it into a mom and pop shop and they performed an inspection on the wheel bearing using a stethoscope. They couldn't find anything wrong with the bearings. Then.. they suggested it was my transmission. I called the dealer, might I add, mine is a Jeep Compass, with a little over 50k miles...OUT OF WARRANTY..I am not the original owner, and when I bought the vehicle, I didn't purchase and advanced warranty of any kind. When I spoke to the service guy he states that there is absolutely NO Service that is performed on these transmissions... other then regular maintenance. When ANYTHING breaks, they just replace the whole thing... TOTAL WASTE!! What a great way to gouge customers out of more money.. ridiculous... anyway.. the repair is going to cost me $4000.... no less...

The funny thing about it is... my entire life, I promised myself I would never buy a Chrysler.. for real.. I heard horror story after horror story about how they have transmission problems out the wazoo...I even had an older friend that had an old Dodge van, he had the tranny replaced 4 times in that thing. 4 friggen times!! And I was soooooooo excited when I got my compass, I loved it.. the radio, the features, comfortable, good economy... to only put 30,000 miles on it.. to break down.

Never again will I buy a Dodge/Chrysler.. NEVER... Maybe an old CJ5/7 to beat around in the woods.. BUT NEVER EVER again will I prefer or recommend this POS brand name.

I would rather walk.

chrisadatl: I have to agree. The old Chrysler Torqueflights were just about about bulletproof behind those big v8s and I owned a bunch of them. My Concorde auto was rebuilt twice in 60k miles and it had never been abused. What convinced me about the Pat was the Lifetime Warranty, and I'm sorry you missed out on that. I believe it should be transferable to improve Chrysler's quality image. If you make a good product, stand behind it.

there are no parts that you can purchase to fix the CVT transmissions, they are made to swap out at a high cost to the owner. also i have heard that after the transmission is replaced other problems like mechanical issues, do your research wish I had.

I'm not sure where you get your information, cinnamon, but below is listed the supplier and PART NUMBER for the rebuild kit for the Jatco JF011E CVT Transmission. Most dealers won't rebuild the unit because they have not been trained in how to do so, as it's a contractor supplied unit. There ARE shops who will rebuild this transmission, and there ARE parts available to do the rebuild. You just have to do SOME RESEARCH!

I'm the same way buddy. I have had Fords my entire life and I figured I would give a BRAND NEW Jeep a shot. I'm sorry I did. My 2010 Pat has 1600 miles on it. Bought it with 200. It has had transmission problems since day 1, but the dealer says "its normal". It's not normal when the transmission clunks and pops, shutters when decelerating, and is a bit noisy at higher speeds....

Shame on me for thinking a BRAND NEW Chyrsler wouldn't have any problems. Now I get to battle with dealerships until finally it craps out and I get to say I told you so......

Mine is FLAWLESS. I LOVE it! I'm gonna buy another next year. CVT, FDI, loaded. WITH another damn sunroof.

It's just too bad some U.S. automakers have to import Chinese and Mexican crap parts for the vehicles they sell over here. A few years ago my Chevy Silverado fried a front wheel bearing at 16K miles while on vacation. The whole hub had to be replaced under warranty. The service manager said the bearings were from Mexico. My '08 Patriot with the CVT has held up very well for 30K miles and I'm fortunate to have the lifetime drivetrain warranty. I wanted to buy a new Dodge Challenger with the Hemi, but the engine is built in Mexico. No way am I spending $36K for something with a Mexican engine.

Don't be too quick to down Chrysler transmissions. In my family we've had several Jeeps, and several other Chrysler products going back to 1969, some with manuals and some with automatics. Only one ever gave any trouble (clutch on my '93 Cherokee). The rest were flawless and they all crossed 100,000 miles, and a couple crossed 150,000.

As of yesterday, I've got 30,000 on my Pat with its original CVT. So far no problems.

I have 60k miles on my CVT and thankfully, no problems at all with my vehicle. In all honesty, if I owned a car that had a major powertrain failure just outside of warranty, I'd probably be livid and swear off the brand for good.

I'm actually surprised that there aren't more reports of CVT failures in our vehicles, given how particular it is about the correct fluid and topping off instructions. I've wondered how many Mopar transmission failures in the 90's were due to quick lube places topping off ATF fluid with something besides ATF+4, or Honda failures from not using actual approved Honda fluid.

With the Patriot/Compass/Caliber, I haven't heard any reports of shops (esp. Jiffy Lube-types) accidentally putting ATF+4 in the transmission instead of CVT+4.

33k Miles and my CVT still feels like the day it was new. One of the reasons I bought the Patriot w/ CVT is because there was such a low reported failure rate on the CVT. A friend had a Ford Freestyle AWD, which also had a CVT and they replaced it twice on her in 36k miles. She traded it in as soon as the warranty was up.

The CVT has very few moving parts..But!! the special fluid does operate at amazingly high pressure. That is why it is semi sealed for life & any form of maintainance is not a DIY propersition. As for swapping the CVT for a manual ???? The expense would not be worth it , dont forget the CVT is also computer controlled.

I was thinking of changing to a petrol CVT from my diesel so more parts would swap over from the FD2, not any more!

2007 jeep patriot cvt tranny shot

I have a 2007 Jeep patriot 46,000 miles never abused the vehicle took in for oil change and check up every 2500 miles and now CVT transmission is shot, Chrysler said it has to be replaced and since it is out of warranty it will cost me 7,000.00, Chrysler will be of no assistance. I think the transmissions are now where they are having issues and more may be reported. I do not think I will purchase from Jeep Chrysler again, since I am almost sure Jatco would warranty the transmission sold to Chrysler. It is hard to be with out wheels :-(

I can't imagine shelling out that much for any car. Is there any chance of getting a used tranny, one from a junk yard, or a rebuilt? It seems like with all the Calibers, Compasses, and Patriots on the road that there would be a market for it.
