Hey, just installed the Uconnect and Ipod integration kit for my 2009 with the RES radio. Here's pics, since it's tough as hell to find a good source for dash disassembly on the 09's.

2009 Jeep Patriot 4x4. RES radio (single CD player with Satellite radio, uconnect button on the radio, iphone 3G)
-uconnect kit: 82211877 ($240 CDN justforjeeps.com)
-ipod integration: 82212000 ($35 CDN justforjeeps.com)
shipped to Sask, tax paid, duty paid, it was about 330 bucks CDN total, dealer wanted $650 CDN plus install. F-THAT

There's 5 pics attached to get you started:

1 - DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. This isn't for minor finger shocks, this is so that the airbag doesn't explode your slipped screwdriver into your face.

2 - Center console pries off, no screws. use plastic tools, i used a plastic ruler. There's 8 little domajiggers to pop out, four up each side.

3 - The radio itself is screwed in place at each corner. Remove those screws and tilt it all forwards.

4 - Follow the diagram. Disconnect the one plug in the back of the RES radio and plug that into the corresponding plug on the new wiring harness. The new harness plugs into the radio with two plugs now. They give you a very easy handling amount of extra cable, so route it inside and into the glove compartment area.

5 - Plug the long end of the harness into the magic black box. I have the ipod integration kit, and that plugs into the magic black box as well. Coil excess cable and tuck it all away beside your interior air cleaner. Ziptie it to something if you don't want it bouncing around. (advised)

mic install

Next, doublecheck that your battery is disconnected.

6 - On both A-pillars, pry off the little square tab and remove the screw behind it. Luckily, they made a little plastic surround around the screw, so when you don't use a magnetic screwdriver and you drop the screw inside the pillar, it stays right there. No biggie.

7 - Remove the airbag's cover carefully. Use no tools, only your hands, you might need that airbag later at a very critical time! Pull the top directly outwards in the same direction that the screw came out (there's a plastic pin parallel to the screw). Look behind the cover, you need to pull the cover upwards to get it out. There's a big square sponge that potentially could pull on the airbag a bit. I really don't think they're really all that fragile or temperamental but i'm not volunteering to push my luck, just know it's there. Repeat for the other side.

8 - On the driver side A-pillar cover, glue the mic to the top of the pillar. make sure it's clean and not -40 degrees etc. etc. Route the cord behind the pillar, tuck it under the ceiling, it has a nice rounded shape to hold the wire without glue or velcro or anything. Route it to the passenger side and down that pillar, i made it just just tucked under the cover on the windshield side. Again, you don't want any crap between you and the airbag. Drop the wire down under the dash and it's waiting for you behind the glove compartment. Plug the mic into the wiring harness you just installed.

9 - run the ipod integration cord wherever you want. it came with a massive plug so my window mount won't work anymore, i need to find a new ipod cord, or an extension maybe.

10 - taker to the dealer and get them to flash the compy to activate your voice control. The ipod integration works instantly and I got to keep my satellite presets and everything. I'm impressed with it so far! Good luck.

Yes they charged for labour, it shouldn't be any higher than 60, or they're gouging. It takes 20mins of labor but the machine sits on a desk for an hour and downloads the firmware.

Ad for iPod charging, I've heard people say it won't charge. It does charge my iPhone 3G. There is an adapter you can buy from walmart that might help. Lots of iPod accessories won't charge the iPod, buy will with the adapter... Maybe something to do with pin length?? I really haven't looked at it. Mine charges. I also installed a 2ft 32pin extension cord so that it would reach my driverside bottom window corner on my patriot. Still charges with that too.

Do you have the exact same model uconnect as me? This one of mine was new for the 2009's I think, maybe it's the ones before it that never charged. I also got to keep my satellite presets with this one. Did you lose your sat presets?

Yeah, it's the exact same model as you...both the ipod part and the uconnect. I haven't tried my iphone so don't know if that charges but I'll give it a try this afternoon. Do you have your iphone mounted by your driver side window? Do you have a pic of your final set up? And finally, what's the adapter you're talking about?

I know! That's a lot of questions! Thanks so much for all your help.

ipod kit in Jeep

Jredel,
Sorry for the late reply, got distracted. This is what my driverside corner looks like... ran the ipod cord out the VIN plate area so my GPS and ipod sit together, you can see the mic up on the top corner. It's a little less than perfect, but it sits nice up there and the iphone mic still works good enough when in the holder that i can voice google-search for places and phone numbers etc still.

I tried my old ipod nano, and it did charge, actually. I really can't explain why other people's ipods don't charge. Maybe try a dock extender like mine and see if that works...? As for the adapter thing, I'm pretty sure it was Belkin that makes it, available at Walmart etc.

Hi
if i buy mygig REN and i put your kit uconnect kit: 82211877 ($240 CDN justforjeeps.com) is ok

I'M not very good in english excuse me thank you
________________

Spydersly, Don't go buying it unless you check with some pros. I just did a quick search on justforjeeps, they don't exactly list the uconnect part number for REN radios very nicely... AKA it may or may not be on that website, but i couldn't find it. If you talk to a dealer, check a few different dealers because they can be stupid stupid ass dumb... I think the biggest thing to check is that you do not want to buy the uconnect kit with a separate uconnect button pad because your radio already has those buttons. The ipod integration kit is a separate kit with a different part number, remember that as well. Good luck! (if you get it and it works, please post)

Arsenic, yes you can control the iPod. I usually leave on random (to the right of preset six) and use the skip button on the steering wheel to skip to random songs... To choose a playlist, you need to start by hitting the "list" button on the deck first, then you can do the rest on the steering wheel. You can do that for albums or songs too, but the steering wheel buttons are too slow at scrolling to be useful. The tune wheel is much faster...

Sooo yes you can still control everything seamlessly using your jeep's stereo, steering wheel controls included.

Thanks for the detailed writeup & pics.

I'm curious of two things;

1. were you able to get your phone to work with the new deck
2. why do you need to see your iPod?

My 2010 Patriot came with the Uconnect radio but and will connect to my Treo700 cell phone but it won't dial out or answer :(

My iPod connector is in the glovebo so I simply plug in my iPod and close the glovebox. I don't have the steering wheel controls but I can sort through the iPod's songs via the deck's controls.

The voice control is essential if you have the Sirus radio option. How else can you dial up channel 140 without taking your attention off of the road. Now if only my cell phone would work with it

Hey, regarding the new deck... Yea the Bluetooth on my iphone works well with the 2009 factory deck. Works just like it's supposed to anyway. If you're having trouble with your phone syncing up, Do tell. What's going on? Does it sync up at all? Will it recognize your contacts if you try "call John smith", etc?

As far as why I need to see the iPod... My iPhone has a real good maps application that responds to voice... So yea. Receiving texts as well. (hands free that is) then I can just return by calling them uconnect style.

EDIT: hmm, ok so upon reading that a second time, it looks like you are able to sync up to the uconnect, but are having trouble with the voice-over. That sounds to me like a bluetooth compatibility issue. Hopefully there's a patch somewhere online you can download to give you a different bluetooth profile or... maybe the uconnect just isn't up to the treo snuff?

When you go to the bluetooth settings on your phone, does it say it's connected to "UConnect"?
When you try to initiate a call by name, does it say, "calling, John smith, Mobile (etc). Is this correct?"
If yes, and you say yes, and it calls out but then disconnects or goes blank, I think it's a bluetooth profile error.
When you dial a number using the keypad on your phone and press dial, does it ask you whether you want to use uconnect or your phone to make the call, or is there any indication on the phone you're using uconnect?
If yes, then the problem might be with your uconnect's system.

I duno, i'm just ripping off ideas from the top of my head...

Okay I'll try and answer a few of your questions.

I'm able to sync my Treo 700 cell phone with the Uconnect radio and when I attempt to dial out the radio goes through with the motions but the phone doesn't. I strongly believe it to be the Treo 700 cell phone software of the compatibility of the Uconnect because a second cell phone I have, a Treo 650 actually does appear to function fully however I don't have that Treo activated.

Tonight I'll search the Treo website to see if there's a Bluetooth update.
