Hi everybody. Today driving home from my office (on dry surface streets) the Electronic Stability Control light started blinking and my Patriot wouldn’t accelerate beyond around 35 mph. I have a 2017 Patriot FD-2 with the CVT, and because I live in very hot San Antonio, I suspected the transmission had gone into limp mode. However, I just had the CVT full service last March at 102,000 miles — this was its second service, the first was around 55,000 — and I’m at 117,000 miles now.

I stayed on side streets most of the way home until the light went off and everything seemed normal. I gradually tried higher speeds and watched the tach, and got on the freeway up to 70 mph with no further problems.

Any thoughts? I’ve seen a lot of stuff about the ESC light on steady, but not blinking.

When it flashes it means the ESC program thinks there's a stability issue and is responding to try to correct it.

I'd check the codes and see if there's any errors stored.

Maybe a rear wheel speed sensor is loose, etc.
