I wanted to post this to "Transmission" but couldn't figure out how to post there. Here's what I wrote:

Last week a Certified & AAA shop changed the CVT Trans. in my 2015 Jeep Patriot 2.0 FWD. It had been changed before under warrantee. This time . . . $1,800. for a used transmission and $1,000. to install, oil, program, etc. On the way home last Friday it started doing exactly what the old trans. was doing. (For the record, I am positive it needed to be replaced. Lots of buzzing noise and I changed the oil hoping to quiet it down . . . but that only made it worse . . . and that's when these problems started.) The overheat light comes on (and off), loss of power when "on" and in "limp mode" until it goes off. I know there's no gears but when the overheat light is "on" it tries spasticity shifting all over the place and the dash P, R, N, D, gear lights flash erratically. Then the overheat light will go off and the car will drive normal. Then back on, and off, on, off . . . etc. You'll drive normal for a few miles then it will come back on. This is the same thing the previous transmission was doing after I changed the oil. Anyone got any answers or experience with this. Thank you!

I'd start with pulling the codes, there could be several. Might be a problem with the TCM, maybe something else.

I'd also get back in touch with the shop that did the work and have them try to fix it.
Ty. I had it at thier front door when they opened on Monday. I asked about the TCM and they said there would be complete troubleshooting.

I'm not sure if you still need help or not, but this situation could be related with this thread on resetting the CVT. I love how this vehicle works past the lack in luxuries, it's nice just being able to follow a process and poof it's fixed. Nice touch.

Have a Good Day.

what was the issue? my jeep patriot is having the same problem
Sorry for the delay. I've been buried. It was the TCM (Transmission Control Module). (Under the dash) They charged me $1000. for the TCM, installation and programming. I'm now driving it daily for Uber. The car and original engine have over 284,000. miles.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated. (y)

Did you have any other questions? After buying a used transmission and paying to have it installed and programmed it was doing the same thing. They had it for another week and told me it needed a new computer (TCM). It took a month to get a new one from Chrysler or they wouldn't warranty it. Car is running normal now but while installing the TCM (Under the dash, above the drivers left foot.) they knocked out my fuel guage. Now my fuel guage doesn't work. They said they'll fix it.

Happy New Year.
