I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot 2.4L with 40K miles on it. I had to disconnect the battery and afterwards the defrost light will blink for about 10-20 seconds when the vehicle is started. Nothing will work while the defrost light is blinking but once it stops, all hvac controls will work. Is there a way to reset something or how can I get that to stop? Thank you in advice!!

Try disconnecting both battery cables, touching them together for 10 mins to reset the system, then reconnect and see if anything changes.

If that doesn't fix it, it may be a bad actuator or the HVAC control head, but since it's all bus driven you need the proper bi-directional scan tool (like the dealers use) that will read HVAC body codes and run the proper diagnostics tests, unless you want to take a gamble and just start replacing parts.

I just recently had this happen this morning. I just had my starter and battery replaced I’m not sure if that is connected to this issue. But I will say it might be the blend door actuator. Mine has been clicking inside my car due to the gears skipping and messing up so I’ll need to get that replaced. Maybe that’s the issue??

The same thing is happening to mine except for only cold will come out now My heat quit working what would that mean

I just had my battery replaced yesterday, and this is happening to me too. I do have heat, I don't notice a difference with that, but wonder if when it had to be jump started in Friday that "confused" something? Mine is a 2017 with just 63k miles on it. I don't get it....
