Hello All,
I have a '09 Patriot, 115k miles.

I noticed a couple days ago that it was idling kind of rough. Today, it went into limp mode, the electric (lightning bolt) symbol is on on the dash. There's no CEL, or stored codes.
The clicking is possibly relays, I'll check later when my wife gets home so she can turn the key and I can listen. It is my wife's car so I don't drive it much, so I'm not sure when the actual problem started.
There seems to be two seperate areas of clicking, one faint and one much louder.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks.

There are plastic gear teeth in there that tend to break.

When the gear teeth strip, it will click like that.

Get a mechanics stethoscope to help you locate the sound.

It's hit and miss with the knockoff throttle bodies. Sometimes they work great, other times they're bad out of the box.

Mopar Overstock sells the OEM for $254-ish

I had a listen with a stethoscope and it seems to be the TB. But of course it's not certain. I went ahead and bought the OEM TB and all other parts for a grand total of $300. It was a mental struggle to not spend $40 on ebay, but I resisted the temptation.

I'll disassemble now and be ready for the part.

Thanks All.

Can you elaborate on that. What on the TB goes bad. Is there a sensor problem. I've priced them on ebay. Looks like an OEM one is $450 and a chinese knock off if $50.

Are the knock off one's any good?

How can I test for a bad TB?

Thanks.
Try putting sea foam in the gas tank two cans to a full tank. Then use wd 40 and clean the throttle body

That did it, It was the TB.

I did see some rebuild gears for it also. But they're about $40 and all in Australia. Didn't seem worth it to even try that route. Also, You'd have to pry off the cover plate to get to the gears. I don't see any other way to get the cover off. Looks to be a sealed unit.

Also, my cheapness got the best of me and I ended up buying a used TB on ebay from LKQ. I've purchased a lot of stuff from them, including 2 engines and they've never let me down.
I got a used TB from a 2010 Patriot with 45k miles on it for $70.

Thanks for the help.
