Hey All. I’m having my trans rebuilt (2007 Patriot Sport Limited 2.4)
I got a price list from my mechanic. Before work I was quoted $1295 plus parts. Now it’s up to $3200. I asked for a list of parts..etc and got an email

Anyone experienced enough to know what ‘parts’ on this list may be standard ‘fillers’ and what is really necessary on a rebuild? I do have metal shavings in fluid. Thanx in advance
Here’s the list:

Overhaul kit $485.00
Filter $39.00
Fluid $99.00

Labor to pull down and reinstall transmission is 7.0 hrs X 85hr is $595.00
Labor to rebuild transmission 8.0 hrs X 85hr is $680.00
Labor total is $1275.00

Base price $1898.00

Torque converter $492.00
Belt $397.00
Piston kit $$278.75
Bearing kit $195.90
Pressure control value $98.50

$3360.15
-100.00 coupon
$3260.15 plus tax on parts only.

You also get credit from transmission service

Hrm, it seems straightforward enough, but I'm no mechanic. I got a used CVT for cheaper than that, and a brand new one shouldn't cost more than $5000. Which for that price, you might as well go new.

The parts prices seem about right, you were quoted $1295.00 labor plus parts, and it came in at $1195.00 plus $1898.00 parts.

I'd agree with geddis, the parts are in the ball park. If you have the time you can compare with these guys: https://cobratransmission.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_945_947_2226

This shop sells a reman'd trans for $2,695.00, not counting core:

If you have metal bits in the fluid, did they say anything about whether the valve body needs replaced or rebuilt? Those little bits can get caught on the valves and score the valve bore.

What's the warranty like? How long is it good for? Does it cover both parts and labor?
