Bought my Patriot 3 weeks ago. 113000 miles. Have a whining noise. Took it to dealership, had tranny fluid changed. Still have the annoying whine! What to do? Give it time? How long will the transmission last with the whine! Afraid I bought a lemon. Suggestions, prior experiences?

Does it happen only when it gets hot, or is it all the time? Has the trans temp light come on? Has it gone into limp mode?

Which side does the whining come from? Driver or passenger?

Other things can whine and sound like the CVT (alternator, A/C, power steering, pulleys, etc.) but they're on the passenger side.

Since you just bought it, have you gotten the dealer involved?

No limp mode or light yet. Really noticeable when using the Auto Stick. Happens consistently in low gears, goes away once about around 50 mpg. Haven’t gone more than 45 minutes driving it at a time. Dealership said there was no metal shrapnel when changing fluid.

Lol, im sitting in a jeep dealership now waiting for my 2013 97k mile 2.0 cvt to have the fluid and filter changed. Im hoping i get rid of the whine thats produced in hot temps when going above 2500 rpm. My pat has had the trans overheat but it was a year ago on a hot hilly trip. I brought it in fearing it would happen again this summer. Hearing how this didnt help hope my wife doesnt get pissed i spend $350 lol

I’ve only driven in about 30 Miles since the change. That’s what I’m wondering, will it take time to go away or is it instantaneous. Barsleak has a new CVT “fix” they just put out. Maybe I’ll try that! Good luck! #recall

Do you hear it very noticeably when accelerating into the fast lane when passing someone?

Maybe it is something weird with the alternator, though I don’t know! Did your CVT always have a noise or was it silent at one point?
It only makes the noise when accelerating over 2500rpm on the highway when the car is heated up and its +70degF outside. I felt the transmission after driving it once and it was scalding hot. It doesnt make the noise often in the winter (only when driving it a while) and it doesnt make it going under 50mph on city roads at cruising speeds.

Well, after a huge up hill battle with every Jeep dealer in Rhode Island telling me this fluid is not changeable, you will have issues with your car if you change it, and the fluid is good for the life of the vehicle i finally had it changed. I even had transmission shops telling me CVTs need to be looked at the dealer. After hearing this sound for 30k miles my nightmare is gone!! The first dealer in Massachusetts (Somerset) did the fluid change as if its no big deal. I drove home going 80mph with ease, no power struggle, no whining at +65mph and no weird jerking in stop and go traffic. The thing drives like brand new and shifts as smooth as butter. I can finally stop driving my wife insane about hearing this noise. Thank you all in this forum, u've saved me from this massive headache. I'll be sailing passed the 100k mile mark with confidence. Next job is to learn how to change the coolant and how to replace drum brakes.
