Hi, New member here from Norway :)
My name is Håvar and I bought my first Patriot for about one week ago, one week later I gor my first fault code :) And I need some new ideas/tips

Suddenly as I drove 4WD! lamp started to light. NO ABS or ESP light, only 4WD! light
I have looked over the wiring harness at kickpanel on the driver side and cheked the pink wire and can confirm that there are no corrosion. I have checked fuse #2 and I have checked that the AWD module gets 12V+. After I have pulled the battery off for about 15min I had to drive 500meter before the light came back.

1: Since the ABS light are not lit and the ABS are working, it can`t be a ABS sensor?

2: Is there any other sensors that can trig the 4WD! light?

Since I bought the car the TPS fault code has been active, but I assume that is a different issue, and can not inpact on the 4WD system...

Thanks for any tips in this case :)

Best regards Håvar from Norway :)

The T-handle is not stuck, this because I am able to swith to 4WD lock and back to normal after a reset (battert off) and before I drive the car (before I get the warning light) so the switch must be functional.. ;-)

Hei :) no only have reader for engine codes. When the yellow 4wd! Light apear I have no power on the rear tires, only FWD. Helt klart en fin fin vinterbil
You really need to buy, rent, borrow or go to a shop and have them read any trouble codes.

My CEL code reader is of my best tools.
Not only for reading any trouble codes but also for clearing them once the repair is done.

A TPCM issue could likely disable 4WD mode by the PCM.
Get that issue resolved and go from there.

Same problem here. The dealership told me a dirty sensor in the left front tire. He said people who go "mudding" seem to come in with this problem a lot. I gave my Jeep a good bath (I'm a mailman on dirt/mud roads so it made sense). Well, that didn't fix it. Did you find out what caused yours, or is it still lit up?

I finally figured mine out just a few minutes ago. There is a wiring harness near the foot rest on the driver's side nearest the door. It's behind the plastic that surrounds the hood release. At the bottom where the wires lay on the floor, the plastic cover cut into some of the wires and water from melted snow got all over them. I dried them off, figuring I'll check this closer in the daylight tomorrow. Just out of curiosity I started the Jeep and viola! No more 4WD! light. Gotta get in there and check it better and do some taping if necessary.

The wires all looked fine, but were wet. I stripped off the electrical tape they used to hold them in a harness fashion and dried every wire off that looked wet. The actual break must be where the plastic piece from the side meets the one from the back by the seat. Yes, right where the two pieces overlap. Check that out .......I didn't really think just drying them would work, but there was a lot of mud in there and small stones. I'm sure there is a break somewhere in the 6 inches I cleaned off.

Thanks for the update!

Would definitely like to know which wires, if you could let us know that'd be great.

I couldn't see anything wrong with them. I did lots of reading and saw it was commonly the pink wires where three of them are joined. I also read this is at the bottom of the harness and hard to get to. I had to work today and it was dark before I got a chance to re-check things. I'll check the pink wires thoroughly tomorrow and post if I find a break. The three pink ones that go together are apparently notorious for corroding so even if I don't see a break I may cut and splice them together again.
