Just completed a 375 mile trip this weekend. Averaged 28 MPG on the highway. the fiirst fill up for my Pat was 24 MPG mostly city driving a couple weeks ago. Second fill up was 21 MPG, same conditions. I was really pumped about getting 28 MPG on my third fill up already. I'm keeping a log book in the glove box to track my MPG's at each fill up.

My Pat is a 2009 2.4L CVTII FWD Sport.

First fill up: its a 2009 2.4l auto with ac on mostly city driving and occasional highway driving. I got 251 miles on 11 gallons. 22.8 mpg. not bad at all.

MPG beats govt rating

Today, I drove to the Airport to pick down my daughter; a 44 mi round trip (4 city + 40 hwy). My little Riot fuel economy was better than the Cdn govt rating. Toronto noon temperature was 20 C (68 F).

Cdn Govt city/hwy 8.9 L/100km, 7.1 (26 mpg US, 33)

my actual city/hwy 8.7 L/100km, 6.5 (27 mpg US, 36)

Like the US EPA testing method, the Cdn testings were done in the lab, with no aerodynamic drag or rough pavements; thus yielding some very optimistic benchmarks.

Whereas, my actual sample trip today was done in more realistic conditions: 9 stop signs; 6 red lights; creeping/coasting thru 5 lucky green lights. The hwy speed was 43 mph to 62 mph due to surprisingly heavy Saturday traffic and construction stretchs. There were no stop & go on the hwy, just slow & go.

In any case, it shows that the Patriot is able to best the ideal govt numbers :pepper: with a bit of hypermiling techniques and luck.

btw, These actual numbers for my Riot are respectably close to the govt rating for the Ford Escape Hybrid especially Hwy. Both vehicles have similar lunch-box aero drags, and both are propelled by gas engines on the hwy. In city stop & go, the hybrid wins by automatically shut off the engine at stop lights and sometimes could use only electric motor at city speed.

Cdn Govt for the Escape Hybrid city/hwy 5.7 L/100km, 6.7 (41 mpg US, 35)

Bottomline: The Patriot purchase cost only half of the Escape Hybrid. I'm very happy with my Riot.:)

My 09 2wd riot started off consuming one gallon of 87 octane for every 29 miles, but after running in & switching to Mobil One after three thousand miles, she now drinks one gallon for every 32.5 miles driven.
This is a mix of suburban/country driving/commuting without pulling a trailer.
I hope to see a slight increase on long hauls with the K&N replacement filter & higher tire air pressures.
Still not as thrifty as my Dodge Neon, but it is much more vehicle.

Gentlemen (Ladies?)
If you update your profiles (location, location, location) and vehicle ride (5spd, cvt1, cvt2, 2.0, 2.4) etc then all announcements of mileage/kilometrage obtained would be comparable to those who view the thread.:D

all pertinent info in my sig (at the smallest font as to not be overpoweiring.

and yes i realize this is in the 4x2 section but a lot of members use the "new posts" option to read threads

I checked my last 1250 miles and 5 fill-ups: 39 gallons of gasoline for 1250 miles and it works out to 31.5 MPG. That was about 85% highway (expressways and rural highways) at legal limits with no heavy acceleration, a/c on for the expressway portions. The other 15% was in local traffic with frequent stops. My pat has 12,000 miles on it. I couldn't be happier with the fuel economy! :smiley_thumbs_up:

see my sig. I haven't updated in a few weeks, but that's about right.. over the last 2 years (almost) of owning this Jeep (click on the MPG, you can see the variance). It is just over 36,000 miles on it.

4200+ mile trip across the US (Pa to Colorado via Dallas & back via Des Moines) overall average right at 30 mpg. Not bad considering the couple tankfuls of 10% ethanol that only got 25mpg and the fact that most interstate driving was at 75mph+

MPGs

09 2.4 5 spd 4x2 with 3500 miles on it. Consistent 26/27 city/rural & 31 to 33 highway at a consistent 65mph. Fun rating is off the charts. Can't remember the last time I so thoroughly ENJOYED driving a vehicle. Ric:smiley_thumbs_up:

at 22,000 mi. I am averaging 23.9 mpg for life of vehicle. Last trip was 29 & that was through the NC mtns from Chattanooga to Charlotte & back. Very happy with the Pat!
