So I had a noise I've been hearing checked out and it was diagnosed as the alternator. It's still functioning, just beginning to whine. At any rate the shop said their computer showed two different amp rated versions of the alternator and that they wouldn't be able to tell which I needed until they pulled out the old one. Checking auto parts sites, I see this is indeed the case - there is a 115a and a 140a alternator listed for my year Patriot. Anyone know if what is in the vehicle can be determined any other way? Does it matter which one you use? Thanks.
