I purchased a 2016 Jeep Patriot High Altitude vehicle from the lower dealership. For the past several weeks the TPMS light would come on and flash for a minute + and then stay on solid. It would go off by itself. This week I finally decided to take it to the dealership for service since it is under warranty. What I found out was that they replaced the Wireless Control Module (WCM) and resynced the tires and my keys.

Not even 48 hours after I got the car back from them the TPMS light came back on blinking again and then stayed solid. After about 1.5 hours it went off by itself.

I have scheduled service for Tuesday but does anyone know what could cause this?

While technology has improved our lifestyle, TPMS is a laggard -- probably more trouble than its worth. I'm cynical about the need for the device, and there are certain times it will not work right in any an all vehicles I've had with the 'feature' (lol). TPMS is easily confused by temperature changes. Whenever the temp drops below 30F in the fall my TPMS light will come on for my first trip. It may do this for several days until it gets used to the new temperature and then it will stop illuminating until the temp takes its next drop -- say down to zero F. Then it will do the same thing: come on for the first trip in the morning for a few days and then go out by itself. I've not noticed this when the temp is on the rise as in spring and summer.

Bad TPMS sensor I'd guess. I have on intermittently that does that, generally only on longer runs. (Aftermarket one in my wheels.)
Thanks. I believe they looked at the sensors and what not on Tuesday when it was at the dealership. Seventy-five percent of the wheels are stock wheels. Like I sated that the system failed to be on when I was at advanced auto last night so I could use the system. I am hoping it comes back on I can find the code again. Apparently removing air and forcing the TPMS to come on solid is not an option as the low tire pressure light will be the only thing that shows up. I am still scheduled to bring the car into Tuesday. What will happen is that I will be dropping it off Monday.

Is the TPMS sensor going back a common issue?

The issue is it coming on and blinking. I am not worried about it coming on and staying on but with it blinking per the manual it means a system error.

Unless you need it to pass state inspection, I'd ignore it. Just get a tire gauge at any hardware store. Probably under $10, maybe $20 for a fancy one. You don't need a fancy one.

If you're under warranty, sure, make 'em fix it. When it costs them too much to keep fixing these things, maybe they'll come up with a system that works reliably . . . or discontinue it altogether. Do I really need a radio transmitter in my tire?!?!

Well I guess "system error" means the computer has figured out what you already know. The system is not working right. Hopefully you're under warranty. Otherwise you will spend more to get it fixed than you ever would have wasted driving around with soft tires.

I had this exact same issue. I inflated all my tires and extra 2 psi then it seemed to be good. However, that wasn't a good enough "fix" for me so I eventually bought a new kenwood radio and added the maestro for computer support since I wanted to know MPG and which tire kept throwing the low pressure and since I upgraded I have never once had my TPMS go off. It went from nearly every other day to nothing. Now, all tires read 35psi almost all the time.
I feel your pain. Since they replaced it once, and it's staying on now I'm not sure.
