Many of you may have received a notice that your password has been changed.

This is often an indication that login information was compromised. If this happens and you were using a password that you use at other sites with the same screenname or email address on file you may want to look at where else you are using that information.

If this change is related to the VerticleScope hack reported earlier this week:

45 Million Accounts Hacked At Some Of The Biggest Car Forums

then the administrators here need to respond and verify since this puts your other accounts as risk if using the same password/username/email address at other sites like gmail, you bank, twitter, etc..etc..

I didn't see any mention of this in the email I received which leaves people exposed if this was the case and they are failing to notify users.

I would have though one of the admins would chime in by now - nobody else is wondering why their password was suddenly changed?

Admins? What was the reason for the password change?

I got an email that mine had been automatically changed today which prompted this post since I work in IT and that automatically red flags me that there may have been a security breach and account info stolen to be passed around.

I don't know this to be the case so perhaps one of the mods can clear up why passwords were automatically changed and if this has anything to do with the Canadian auto forum group mentioned above..tCanada may not have the same required reporting requirements to users as we do in the US if so.

I saw a post recently that stated they were getting us to change our passwords.

I just went to change my password back to what it was, and found a possible explanation. Somebody decided changing the familiar site layout wasn't enough, now it's harder to choose a password. My guess is, any old passwords not meeting the new criteria were automatically reset, whether we want it or not.

This was at the bottom of my email:

Jeep Patriot Forums, a part of VerticalScope Inc.
111 Peter Street, Suite 700
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
M5V 2H1

I did change my password but did it from here not the link in the email. I did have to use the password given to me in the email to get in to change it though. Not sure if I'm good now or not. The password I had and the new one I changed it to are specific to this site though.

Well, thanks for letting us know. This would most likely explain why I'm getting the same issue at a motorcycle forum that I frequent. EXCEPT I CAN'T GET THAT ONE RESET! It's really frustrating. And no mention of this hack there, either. Hmmm...

I got the same mail/password change notification from another automotive website so I think they're both part of the same automotive group.

I would definitely want to know if my information has been compromised so I can change any other accounts I have that might use the same email address/username/password. That's the main concern and the reason I created the thread.

If that's not the case and the automatic password change was for another reason that would be important to know also. We should be given a reason for this change.

we're not allowed have passwords that are easy to remember and meaningful to us bc a few bad apples (negative loser hackers with no goals or life) in the barrell spoil it all ?

Can Jeep patriot forum bring back the old password please?
