Border Patrol Finds Cocaine In SUV
37 Pounds Worth More Than $371,000
TECATE, Calif. -- U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a driver Wednesday after cocaine was found in a hidden compartment behind a Jeep Patriot's glove compartment, Border Patrol officials said Friday.

Agents found 14 packages of cocaine, with an estimated street value of about $371,000, after a drug-sniffing dog alerted on the glove compartment during a routine inspection at the Tecate Port of Entry. A subsequent x-ray of the vehicle found anomalies in the vehicle's firewall....

Hidden Storage Space... well it used to be anyway. :D

Kah, wouldn't it be better for these smugglers to have their own small stash be found in the glove box so that there would be no further need to search the car... ?????

It would make it easier for Customs to auction off the vehicle afterwards... that's for sure. kinda hard to auction off a vehicle that's dismantled and with no re-assembling instructions available!

Here is Customs side of the story: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/newsroom/news_releases/06122009_3.xml Was a 2008 because Nearly Normal Jimmy has dash removal instructions available! (J/K)

I guess what I meant was would customs continue to search the vehicle if they found the "source". There would be the main stash still in the firewall but the little bag would be what is found by the dog. Or would they just tear the car apart anyway?

Let them find a penny to save the $100 bill.

They ran it through an "x-ray" machine. They scan the whole vehicle simultaneously so if its there, they will find it all in just one scan. And yes, they dismantle it completely just in case. Usually, they get it back together. I saw a CBP video dismantling a Lamborghini... ouch...

My question is... was that the main car or the "decoy" ;) In other CBP news they caught one car with $1 million worth of pot... in the tires alone. $371K seems a bit low for coke IMO.
