The old lady has a 10 Pat Sport. She got the gas cap message a while ago, and subsequently codes 0455, 0456. Gas cap was replaced, and I believe the MIL light went away for a bit? Can't remember. The MIL light is currently on

What's got me stumped is that when I do the ignition trick to get my codes... I get no codes. Brought to Autozone, he told me they're stored codes. I said so what does that mean? Either have somebody with a code reader clear it? As he said he isn't allowed to do it. Or maybe remove the battery terminal for a bit?

He told me either would work. Went home, removed ground cable for 2 hours. Replaced. MIL still there.

My question is...if the ignition trick is showing no codes, and I removed the battery terminal, why is the MIL still there? I don't want to take it to a shop just to have the code cleared. Any ideas?

If the light came back on after disconnecting the battery you still have a problem. EVAP leaks can be very difficult to find. First question I have is did you use a MOPAR gas cap, I've read numerous problems with aftermarket caps that were resolved with an OEM part.

So did the autozone guy not even go out and check to see if he could run the codes? If he didn't take it back out there and tell them to run the odb2 reader on it, or take it to advanced auto or napa...any auto parts store will have a code reader, it might be a pain for them to run out there to read it but that part of their job...

I once stopped at advanced and the guy couldn't get the scanner to turn on, he throw his hands up after several attempts and said theres something wrong with your port you need to take it to the dealer asap...so instead I went straight to autozone where theirs fired right up and read my codes no problem...diagnosis. ..dead battery in advance autos odb2 reader...

It could possibly be a different code than 0455, 0456 unless the gas cap is loose or faulty, working as it should you would only need a certain amount of drive cycles to clear those codes granted if indeed it were the gas cap throwing the codes.

I have had 0456 several times in my short ownership of this rig and what I have found out is that I either have a wonky oem fuel cap or filler neck "theres a little rust on one spot of the filler neck and its a little buldged there"
My gas cap feels loose when i go to tighten it up except for a couple places when turning it. So I make sure that i stop on one of those spots so that its tight...if not then I get a small evap leak and the mil light comes on aka 0456. I tighten the cap up and within a few drive cycles it goes off.

Yeah he went out and checked it... and said they were stored codes, however he could not clear them. I then brought it home and removed the battery for a while. Turned on the car and they were still there. So i did the ignition trick and it didn't show any codes. Just bizzarre.

Hey bryrab110,

I could not find any TSBs related to the DTCs stored in your vehicle. I would advise you to have the vehicle formally diagnosed at an FCA certified dealership. An FCA certified dealership will be able to scan the codes and diagnose the issue. Don’t hesitate to private message me if you have any further questions.
