I must post a retraction and apology to Hoosiermud.

He is correct.

I was wrong here. Anti-recreationists/eviornmentialistsis a good way to describe the group you are after. And upon further thought, you are right. That group is responsible, in part for requesting the watering down of the Jeep brand.

I stand corrected. I will not criticize use the term in the future.

Style wise, I think it gives a BMW X5 a run for its money IMO.

I still say they're going for LR. This is an 07 Land Rover control system, also located on the console. It pretty much has all the same options that the new Cherokee has.

But..........the Land Rover used to be a nice square SUV, like a, err, hmm, say the Commander or Liberty!

Now the only one is the LR3. The rest look like goofy aerodynamic Asian junk. Furthermore, when I went to "off road performance" on their site, they show me the fancy electronic controls of how to engage it. Not pictures of axles and transmissions and suspension. Agrrrrrrrrr

I would discontinue the GC. It is totally unnecessary. Patriot, Liberty, Wrangler, Gladiator, should be the Jeep line.

I love my CJ.

I have read all the material on the debut, but did I miss something about a third row of seating? Personally, I don't think Jeep needs a 7 passenger vehicle, but for some it is something they would want.

If the GC is not 7 passenger, then is the Commander really a dead vehicle?

Some of you like the styling of the new GC, I don't. Looks too much like most of the Asian SUV's. If someone were to debadge this thing the only way to tell it's a Jeep is by the seven slot grill. What's with those horrible headlights? IMHO the GC has not been a good looking Jeep in quite some time but this 2011 design just pushes it even further from what I've always thought a Jeep should like look. I'm happy that my Riot doesn't look like anything else on the road right now and no one can make that claim if they buy the "new" GC. Happy trails to those who buy it and then just blend in with all the other SUV's out there.

Happy trails is right. The sooner that thing moves on down the road the better.

You meant to say Defender instead of LR3, right? :)

It reminds me of the Grand Vitara and the rear is just like BMW X5. I can't say I don't like it. It's pretty, although it;s not excactly a Jeep. Where is this Great Indian of the past?

They are not going to make any more 7-passenger Jeeps. They are leaving that to Dodge. The Durango will be a 7-passenger vehicle;:smiley_thumbs_up:

I have to disagree with you in some areas....first, while the new GC may have some points of similar styling to other foreign SUV's.....let's just say that those other SUV's are selling pretty well and to be competitive w/r/t styling.....Jeep has to be able to compete with those brands

However, I would also suggest that the GC is a REAL Jeep and those other foreign SUV's would get stuck in the mud and/or snow long before the GC ever would....they just don't have the 4 wheeling capability of the GC...some are badged as 4x4 but all really only AWD vehicles and some are even onlyl part-time AWD vehicles....the GC is still a trail rated Jeep and is in a class by itself with respect to off-roading....

I found that the latter versions of the GC from 2000 onwards were some of the best-looking SUV's on the market and my current 08 GC Overland is a dam#%# good-looking vehicle too (if I do say so myself)!

With respect to the interior, the new Limited/Overland versions are over the top with luxury inside and techno gadgets and can compete with any luxury SUV out there right now...

You have to remember that part of the new aerodynamic styling helps with increased fuel efficiency as well....to each his own though...if you are looking for a Jeep whose styling stands out in the crowd then the Wrangler is really the one that you want....I don't believe that most GC buyers (I being a longtime GC buyer) are looking for something 'to stand out'....

If you take a Dodge Caravan and change the sliding door to swing out is it still a minivan or has it become a crossover SUV?
If you take a Dodge Journey and change its swing out doors to sliding is it now a minivan or is it still a crossover SUV?

The same question holds for all 7 passenger "SUV"s.
I find it funny how semantics makes all the difference. :icon_rolleyes:

From a frontal view, the Patriot looks a lot like the older gen Liberty--especially just glancing at the vehicle. It's almost like Jeep doesn't want to quite give up that styling--probably because it did sell quite well.

I wonder what a Patriot would look like with the XJ's square headlights?

Nice try suzq044, but even as a 2 door it is still Hideous.

Jeep is supposed to lead the pack off road. Not downgrade to IFS and wind tunnel styling to appease suburban soccer mom and dad buyers who what to feel rugged. Let them buy a Lexus. (YUK)

I'm pretty sure the Cherokee was already IFS. The wranglers are the only ones without it. As I said, they're going after Range Rover -- which also has IFS. I'm not worried at all in this case. I think the Cherokee will do just fine off-road; the only problem is the expense of repair and modification. However this is again, aimed squarely at those who would want a Rover for less $. It will be just as, if not more, capable than the Rovers (Which are raved about by just about anybody who owns one and actually brings it off-road)

Plus, the main change I did, was the tails; the 2-door I just did for fun as a "SRT" model, without the wide-flares and stuff..
