Has anyone with a pre-2010 Pat tried installing the cupholders from a 2010+ in order to get the lighted cupholders?

I haven't looked into the cost of the part at all, just curious if anyone had done it and had any insight.

I did a search and came across a thread where someone installed LEDs in the cupholders - but there wasn't any information on how it was done. I didn't find anything about anyone doing a direct swap when I searched, but admittedly I only went through 8 pages of search results - so the answer may have been buried deeper.

UPDATE: 1/25/15 After taking 5 minutes of time to remove my center console I quickly discovered that the cupholder is easily removable by simply loosening 4 torx head screws. It appears that in the 2009 Patriots that have the "rounded" dash the cupholder is the same as the 2010-2015 cup holder except it doesn't have the light ring.
I discovered that Mopar Part #5108217AA is listed as the cup holder for 2009-2015 Patriot and Compass. This, along with the fact that there is a live wire connector that is switched by the headlights and controlled by the dimmer switch located in the center console, leads me to believe that it should be a direct plug and play swap.

I didn't know 2007-2009 didn't have lighted cupholders, but it makes sense considering they updated the whole dash for 2010.

You find me a clean console that fits my 2011 without the lights and I will send you my console with the lights in it.

All you'd have to do then is find a wire and hook it up, snap it in and go.
I guess the question is: is there a difference in the consoles between 2009 and 2010+ besides the addition of the lights? I know that the brochure for 2009 shows lighted cupholders as standard on the Sport model with a "Late availability" disclaimer... so I was banking on the console being the same with just lights added (and the wire obviously).

If we were closer than 2500 miles apart I would drive over and make a trade with you (assuming we had the same color interior) ;)

This may be another brainstorm of mine that will fall into the "seems like it would be cool, but will probably be cost prohibitive" category.

The interior received a full interior change on those years. I'd assume the console is the same besides the cup holder. But, it's jeep so I'm sure they changed something else.

From what I've learned over the years, Chrysler does NOT like people swapping interior parts from different generations of vehicles. I bet Chrysler did something to make them not line up properly, most likely at the point where the console meets the dash

Look at your own interior and pics of Creation's, you'll see it's a bit boxy with more traditional rectangular vents. Then look at the dash on mine or TJN's. Last year of the old exterior styling, but the interior was contoured and seats updated. Then for 2011 they updated the exterior trim and the steering wheel.

Yeah, I noticed the 2008s had rectangular vents, different center console "styling", and a different armrest... Mine has the rounded vents and updated armrest/center console from the 2009 interior redesign.

The 2010 looks roughly the same as my 2009, except the different HVAC controls and top edge of the bezel around the HVAC controls.

I know those photos don't show the cup holder area... but you can see what I'm getting at.

Cup holder area (wow the flash makes it look pretty dirty in there... sister left it messy when she sold it to me!):

Upon close inspection it appears that there is just a black plastic spacer in the area where the "lighted" version has the light ring... hmm...

Ignore the mess, mines a 2013

Hope this helps a bit
Thanks for the pics!

Looking back at old threads I see where someone shaped some plexiglass to make a light ring: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42577

Seeing how it fits in there makes me wonder if a dealership may sell the light ring as a separate part.
My google-fu is not strong today though because I have been unsuccessful in finding anything online.

Yeah, there's the different environmental controls in pre-2010 versions, but it looks like yours has the contoured dash, maybe that bit is the 2008-2009 difference. Or maybe both dashboards were offered in 2009.

Definitely possible. I've seen photos that were labeled as 2009 with the boxy vents, but the 2009 brochure shows rounded - so its a confusing year ;)

All this talk... I had to go take a closer look. Center console is REALLY easy to remove with only 2 screws and 2 tabs holding it down... THAT was a surprise!

Anyway - when I flipped it over I found that there is a wiring connector attached to the bottom of the cup holders that just terminates there. I ASSUME that is meant to be where the connecter to the lights would just continue on to the bulbs.

You can see it here:

Only takes 4 torx head screws to remove the actual cup holder... and it becomes pretty obvious that this is where the "light ring" goes - there is a black plastic ring in there that is probably replaced with clear plexi:

EDIT: just tested with multimeter... That connector is tied to the interior lights. Headlights on, it goes live. Adjusting the interior light brightness adjusts the voltage.

So... the question is: Anyone know how to find the part number for the version of this part that has the lights?

Or Metaxa - you feel like doing a swap? of the cupholder portion?

That's crazy to know they just snap right in and the connection is already there. There's a connector on the bottom of my 2008, I'm curious to know what it leads to now since the 2008 didn't come with light up cup holders.

Instructables.com had lighted cupholders similar to ours as a project. It looked like plex inserts.
On my XJ Cherokee, I drilled a small hole and inserted a 12V LED that I cut out of a string of them that I bought on clearance from Adv Auto. It was actually TOO bright, so I put a dab of black nail polish on the LED. It looks pretty good (you can't see it unless you look for it). I put it in the rear of the cupholder, facing forward, so it wouldn't be distracting. Works great- for my daughter who now owns my still loved XJ. It's not the "ring" look, but it was cheap, good looking, and very effective!

Lighted cup holders plus Mt. Dew looks radioactive!
I bet!

When in 2008 was it built? Maybe it got the early 2009 parts? Mine was actually built in mid 2008, sister purchased it in January 2009.

Thanks for the info!

==========

After trying some better search terms I found a part number for the 2009-2015 cup holder... looks like $45 from this place here: http://www.mymoparparts.com/jeep/pa...sport-trim/2-4l-l4-gas-engine/body-cat/front-console-scat/?part_name=cup-holder

For anyone in the future that may come across this - the part number is: 5108217AA

The item description does not specify lighted - but it does say it covers 2009 on up... so I ASSUME it is lighted. I will be emailing to find out.
