Very frustrated on this, so far little complaints but this one to me is a big one!

Why is the Jeep radio 3 3/4" tall which is against international ISO standards!!!! Who else has had this issue and is the bezel for the navigation radio models actually conform to the ISO double DIN standard?

International standard ISO 7736 defines a standard size for car audio head units and enclosures. The standard was originally established by the German standards body Deutsches Institut fĂĽr Normung as DIN 75490, and is therefore commonly referred to as the "DIN car radio size". It was adopted as an international standard in 1984.

Head units generally come in either single DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or double DIN (180 x 100 mm panel) size. The depth is not standardized; as a result, some cars such as the Opel Manta / Ascona have the correct sized front aperture but will accommodate few DIN sized radios other than the original due to the shallow depth; this despite the vehicle being manufactured as late as 1988. The US standard for a DIN radio is 2" x 7" (although the actual 180 mm width converts to something like 7-3/32" so most people use 7-1/8" to allow for clearance) and the Double DIN sized radio is a 4" x 7".

Oh I have, and in the past 4-5 years I've installed a half dozen double din Navigation head units in a variety of new vehicles with no height fitment issues.

The two posts you linked do not reflect the bezel issue I am talking about. Yes the metal bracket needs to be cut off on top or removed, I get that and I can do that. I cannot modify the OEM HVAC bezel and no where can I find any info from anyone about installing a new double din headunit. Is the base model radio I have only smaller and the navigation OEM headunits at the ISO 4" height? The back bracket is fine, wiring is fine, its the from radio HVAC bezel which is the issue.

Oh it's just like that game I played when I was a little kid, I could never get the triangle in the circle for some odd reason, but hmm I didn't know there was a standard size haha

Thinking back.. the only vehicle I've had a clean install of an after market radio was my XJ, and that's because at some point in the 90's somebody else had put in an after market radio w/tape deck, and so it was already modified. My infinity I have to get a JDM faceplate to replace the integrated radio/HVAC controls...

I've been looking at cars with my dad, and none of them seem to be easily upgraded to a double din. Singe din sure, but double din would be pushing it.

So re-reading this, now that im off work. Chrysler and Ford commonly use 1.5 din radios. You have to buy a nav bezel, then a nav install bracket to fit your new radio. Or save about $100 and just dremel out your bezel...

Let me know any insight on the OEM Nav bezel .... once I have a part number or identifier I'll scour www.car-parts.com for an inexpensive one.

Yea may do that. From what I can see there are four head unit options correct?
REQ, RBZ, RHB, and RES

If so which one do I have (base radio)? I see on the Jeep site there are only 3 radio options, is the Uconnect the only navigation (unit if so I know I need that bezel)?

REQ-6 disc, RBZ-touch screen media center, RHB-touch screen nav, RES-single CD/MP3

okay, i done did some googlin'... aaaaand of course chrysler had to change EVERYTHING once again. When they revamped the interior, the got rid of the true double din nav units. So everything is 1.5 din... pretty much. I doubt they were specific. In short, there is only ONE size bezel made for 2011+ pattys. Either trim your bezel or grab a smaller touch screen. Sorry dude, welcome to Chrysler ownership lol

Can someone with a navigation unit confirm this :(
So I have the RES HU in that case and if all are 1.5 DIN bezels I am screwed :(

oh you aren't screwed. Hell, you seem to like modifying cars, all you need to do is make a 10mm divet in your bezel. Hell, tax season is among us. Sell your radio on Ebay and grab a newer, better one. Just do some research on the size. Manufacturers vary their height by a few mm from time to time.

No I would be returning the unit and buying a new unit I've already contacted the seller and they are looking for sizing specs on all of their units so hopefully they sell a 1.5 DIN and I can exchange it otherwise I'll return it.
