You want 220 HP/215TQ the right way?

GEMA 2.4L is shared with only the Avenger and Sebring as it stands. These motors are not designed to take any amount of boost...however, that does not mean you cannot apply boost to the motor. What you must take into consideration is the 2.4 in the SRT4 and the PT are designed with strengthen cranks, new pistons, heads, rockers, etc. It is the same displacement yes, but it is a completely different engine. I've noticed many people saying they just want 200 across the board (hp & torque) there are far easier and cheaper ways to obtain this.

The easiest being this: MOPAR Street Performance chip, cold air intake, header, turbo muffler with 2.25 pipe for good back pressure, stage II clutch install, high performance spark plugs, bigger injectors and fuel pump, MOPAR distributor.

If you decided to put all of the above on your GEMA you would be sitting around 200-220 HP & 190-210 torque for far less than doing a true turbo install...plus it is all covered under warranty work...i.e. none of the above violates the statues of warranty. Good luck and take it easy!

I like your enthusiasm and I do agree that it is possible to get some power out of this 4 cylinder, but most of these parts are not available for the patriot.

1. mopar performance chip - not available for the patriot. Sure there is one for the caliber, but the patriot is programmed different so it probably will not work.

2. cold air intake - there are ram intake available, but no true cold air intake. The K&N has a box that the stock tube connects to, but that is still not a true clod air intake. The air filter needs to be outside of the engine bay for it to be a true cold air intake.

3. Header - as stated above, it can be used on the 2WD but the 4x4 has a cat in the header so you can use it, but you will not be emissions legal.

4. Muffler - good place to start, but you need a full catback to make a real difference. Still would likely net 5 HP at the most.

5. Stage II clutch - Clutches are great if you have the extra power and need to get it to the wheels faster, but they dont really give you more power. Some driveability is lost with a performance clutch as well.

6. bigger injectors and a fuel pump - these are not necessary unless you are going to boost the engine (or No2 of course) more fuel without more air will not give you any gains.

7. performance spark plugs - again, unless you have some type of FI or nitrous, these will probably not give you any gains. maybe 1 HP if your lucky.

8 Mopar distributor - the patriot does not have a distributor. it has direct ignition. There are upgrade kits for these, but again without FI you dont need it.

Overall I like your ideas, but most of it is not available for the patriot, and if it is you will be spending a lot of money for little gain.
IMO do a custom turbo set up running 6-8 lbs and you will be safe, and happy with the gains. :smiley_thumbs_up:

Actually Guys

I have been looking into all of this there is a working performance chip and cold air intake by mopar, as well as performance headers and exhaust. I spoke with a gentleman in my dealership and there is also a pretty secretive turbo. I dont know if i should get that because the piston rings and heads and everything in the engine isnt meant to have that much power.

Opinion mode on...

There is no way you are going to add 30-50 hp on a normally aspirated 4 cylinder without adding boost or nitrous or SERIOUS engine work.

If a chip existed it would probably require premium gas as that's an easy way to increase power by increasing spark advance, but your probably looking at maybe a 5 hp gain.

Cold air intake/header/exhaust combined is worth 10hp. (stated in mopar catalog)

Spark plugs don't make power (unless your old ones are worn out). you might see a 1 hp gain.

fuel pump and injectors wont make any more power either. unless you radically change the air flow characteristics of the motor and were starting the current fuel system.

So best case you might see 16hp increase and that would be at redline, you'd see alot less at the rpms you normally drive at.

Opinion mode off...

Don't get me wrong, i'd love to have another 16hp, but the header and chip at least aren't available for my 4x4 patriot yet...

I found volo performance module on the internet. It was only $89.99, so I bought one put it in and I notice a Performance increase. THe AEM intake is loud when you put your foot in it. The catback system gives the motor a nice sound. All three of these items helped to increase performance. I don't know how much HP I got out of this but it is very noticeable. I am willing to try all of these parts due to the fact, this is what I could find for the Patriot. The volo module-chip does work. I never stated the HP gains because I do not know. I can tell by driving it, that there is a good bit of performance increase. Anyway I am the type of person to try what I can find for the Patriot. Too bad they don't make a header for the 4x4. I have searched for two years for parts for the Patriot.
