Why did you buy a Patriot?

Looking for other members reasons why they bought one. I've had my 2014 for two months now and like it. I wanted to buy something that I could use 80/20 on road off road. I live in a small county where it rains a lot and there are quite a few outdoor activities. I upgraded from a truck so keeping all my stuff drier has been nice. Haven't been able to do much off roading with it YET though. This has been the first Jeep that I have owned. What were your reasons for buying one?

My wife is short and likes to sit high, so our 4x4 Patriot meets that requirement with the seat height adjustment but also handles more car like and gets respectable fuel economy. The price was good as the dealer discounted our Latitude by $7k, and I think it's a decent value for the money at that price point. We occasionally get quite a bit of snow in Northern Virginia (we got 2 1/2 feet during a storm this past January) and it gives me some peace of mind that she'll be much safer if she has to drive in bad conditions. We also like the look and styling of the Patriot, and it reminds me of my 1996 XJ. My wife loves the remote start and heated seats.

I lived in a small town south of phoenix by about 30 miles, And at least once a week, due to flooding/accidents/fires/etc, we could not leave the town, unless you had the ability to take the side/dirt roads that were not maintained.

I wanted something I could take off road, was affordable, could fit my family and our junk, and that I liked the look of.

The patriot checked off all the boxes. I sold it a couple of years later, and still regret that we had to do that for financial reasons... but its one of the cars I've had the most overall fun in.

Bought my first patriot because it was the least expensive small SUV fully loaded that was actually off road capable. Bought our second one because it was inexpensive, had the space we require and is off road capable. We were almost inked on a renegade until we tried to fit our family luggage into the rear, the area was too small for our family.

I needed a new cheap, non luxurious grocery getter/child transporter for the wife and in the SUV market, for the price, there were no other options at all :)

Wanted to be able to drive in the sand on the beach, drag my small kayak trailer, haul the family around, and so forth, on a budget. It met my needs. I joke that some day I want a "real jeep" (Wrangler), but I couldn't justify that when it came time for my last vehicle purchase. Having a 4 year old, 5 year old, and a stay at home wife, the budget friendly 4x4 Patriot fit the bill. I have the FD2 version and it's done everything I have wanted. I think in sand, I will shine but worried if I have to take on mud.

I like that it sits up higher, boxy so good cargo capacity, is not a wimpy car, so it can drive down dirt roads if need be, price. It's the perfect vehicle.

My mom has one too. She has bad hips/knees, so it's easier for her to get in/out. She was afraid of the size of it until I pointed out that it is actually not as long as her VW Jetta was.

its everything i like in a vehicle. Nice cutatte suv look, small and manuable, very basic inside, roomy enough for me, impressive gas milage, and he price was a good deal, even though it took me very aggressive saving I paid for it the day i bought it

ts kind of like a smaller version of the fj cruiser, mini hummer, and reminds me of a inexpensive landrover. Its nice to me and fit within my vehicle budget, what i could come up with, thanks to my wonderful family

Heh my ex landrover was 1/6 of the price of the patriot :D

Lol, croat, wasn't half the reason you bought yours because you'd been on the forum for years without getting one? ;) Haha, sorry, couldn't resist bringing up that old joke again.

That aside, mine was intended for basic college transportation. 4x4 because of Michigan/Ohio winter, and can't go wrong with crank windows, manual everything(except the CVT of course :D ). Many probably once expected me to have sold it by now, but as has been disclosed so many times, the plan has, umm....grown.

Before the patriot, my commuter car was a 2010 accent stick. Loved the little car and it got mid 30s mpgs. My two sons though were getting larger and so I needed more space in the back seat. I wasn't about to spend more money- the accent was paid for- on just a bigger version of the same thing I was driving. So I started looking for a vehicle that would be an upgrade all around. My other vehicle was and still is a 2007 xterra 4x4 which I love. I came across the patriot with an msrp of 18k with 4x4! As I own some acreage in the mountains I thought having another vehicle capable of getting up the mountain would be good too. Found my true blue sport 4x4 5spd in west Virginia. The dealer drove it down here to Raleigh and I bought it. 21k msrp and it just has the uconnect and upgraded wheel and tire package. Love the roll up windows.

It goes up mountain no issues and I get 25mpg on average. Am happy besides the little problem of it stuttering lately. Oh. And have the lifetime warranty but that does not cover the throttle body it seems. So will use the aftermarket throttle body to replace if that's the cause of my random hiccup.

Did you get the Mopar MaxCare (5,000 plus parts) lifetime warranty? Because that would cover the throttle body I assume.

Or is it a warranty offered by the dealership? There are also other levels of the Mopar warranty. There's one that covers the powertrain -- internal lubed parts only, and then one that covers like 1,500 parts. You can probably upgrade it. And if you buy the warranty online from a large JeepChrysler dealership, you can get it a lot cheaper.

Another reason that the Patriot is great I forgot to mention earlier is the space. I can put the rear seats down and sleep in the back with my legs spread out. Great for car camping.

My daily drive (2000 Kia Sportage) took a ****. I had a 2004 GTO that was fairly modified. This car was only nice weather and track driven.
I decided I needed to have one car that I could drive all year. I was in the middle of buying a home and didn't know what my payments would be. I knew what I wanted but also knew what I could afford.
I needed room for my bikes, 4x4, decent mpg and look fairly good. The Jeep worked for the most part.
Now if I knew that my home payment was going to be so cheap, I would have bought the RAM 1500 instead.

Funny how price is on everyone's list.

I do agree, there was nothing, nothing that I could find for an SUV or crossover that came even close brand new for the $14,000 negotiated price I paid for my 2014.

Bought it as an upgrade from my '98 Mustang. Needed a bigger vehicle for my girlfriend and our 3 dogs.

Trying to fit a 70 lb and a 30 lb dog in the back seat of the mustang was a hassle. Our 7 lb Maltese doesn't take up much room. Now they have the whole back to themselves, and they don't have to ruin my seats.

Price was a steal for my 'riot.

Pretty proud of my first vehicle purchase.

It hit several of the must haves on my list, 4x4, clearance, skid plates, hooks, decent MPG, cargo space, leg room, and a lot of that just to get up and down my driveway.

First one, my 08, was to replace my Tracker, ended up replacing the Patriot first with another one in 14, still have the Tracker too, 250K miles.
