Did you look underneath?

 

There is a 4" semi round opening in the skid plate/plastic cover under the front end on the passenger side. The filter will be recessed 1"-3" depending on if you have an oil cooler.

 

I have looked and all I see is a hole for the oil plug. I don't know if it matters but it is a 5 speed Man 2.4

 

Closer to the front, and a bigger hole. You can acually see it between the bumper and the rad if you look from the front.

 

Front of the engine, vertical placement. It has its own hole in the splash shield.

Look a couple feet to the front of the vehicle from the oil drain plug.

And if you are taking it off a dealer installed filter, have some tools handy like a strap wrench or socket cap that will fit the filter. It's common for the dealer to wrench them on very tight making it very difficult to remove.

 

What Hitzy said! I ruined a new filter wrench getting mine off the first time. Luckily, I have an old compression type that clamps tight as you loosen.
