What Might the New Jeep "Scamp" Look Like?

Wasn't sure if it was worth posting this, but anyway, was bored today and decided to do some experimentation in Photoshop.

According to some rumors Jeep will build a vehicle to slot in below the Compass/Patriot. Some say that the plans were cancelled but others say otherwise. The plan, as I've heard it, is to build the design off the Fiat Panda Cross.

Contrary to some photoshops, most sources (specifically those at Allpar) now say that the actual design will be based off the Willys2 concept and Wrangler (see this thread and this article).

Anyway, I was bored today and was supposed to be doing math homework, but didn't want to do it, so I took a Fiat Panda Cross and did some minor illustration in, uh, Adobe Illustrator.

Here's the original car:

So I illustrated it with a raised hood, a convertible top, the traditional seven-bar grille, narrowed the front of the vehicle a bit, and added trapezoidal wheel wells.

Here's a comparison showing how the illustration compares to the Panda:

IF...they do this with a convertible top like the old Suzuki Samurai, it could work. Give it a real transfer case and a manual transmission and I could be a much needed light duty, high economy yet capable vehicle Jeep is lacking. If they make a small, tough vehicle it will be a good Jeep. If they make a crossover, they are dead meat.

Totally agreed. This vehicle, being based off the Panda, has already been looked at spec-wise by several offroad magazines, including JP Magazine. All note that its size is extremely close to the original CJ.

There is absolutely nothing about Jeep that necessarily requires bigger size. Just look at all the guys with JKs wishing they were the size of a TJ or even YJ.

Hmmmmm...Why does it still look like a FIAT !!
Probably because it is one :p Sorry man, I can't do miracles. Although I did look at the rear, but decided against changing the Panda's circular taillights because, well, they seemed so Jeep.

That one looks like a compressed Compass front. Headlights seems to big for such a small car.
If I come back to this illustration I might go back and shrink up the headlights a bit. I know that the grille is a bit lopsided with the right side looking a bit "fatter" than the left.

My only really big message to Fiat is this: Make it look like a Wrangler, give it real off road ability (even if it's only FDII, lightweight transfer case preferred as an option, perhaps even limited slip diffs if you're really feeling generous) and do the soft-top you've been talking about. Don't make it an expensive convertible-type thing, just an old-school Wrangler top.

Since this is my concept illustration, I'll also throw out a couple specs for it:

  • 2.0 World Engine with Multiair and DI (taller hood=bigger engine compartment=more engine room)
  • 5 speed manual, optional dual-clutch automatic
  • Optional air conditioning (soft-top breeze cooling standard)
  • Optional power windows and locks
  • Optional transfer case
  • Fog lamps
  • Optional "Civil Defense" package with shovel, NOAA weather radio, CB, first-aid kit, tent, CD geiger counter
  • Onboard computer can transfer OBDII information directly without OBDII check
  • Spare tires and headlights (yes spare headlights)
  • Ground clearance 9.5 inches
  • Approach/departure/breakover 29/34/22 degrees respectively
  • 27/35 MPG

okay, so it can be small and be Jeep, but is that what they are going for? are they going for an offroad capable vehicle or are they trying to compete with things like the Honda Fit? It's one thing to make a "smaller" Wrangler, but to start putting Jeep badges on small European cars might be scary..... trust me, I am grateful Jeep expanded their lineup a few years back, I couldn't have afforded a Wrangler so the Patriot was perfect for me, but something about what carmakers mean by "small" now-a-days makes me scared lol

I actually don't know that Jeep wants to compete with something like the Fit. Instead I think they're trying to figure out how they can survive as a brand but still meet the federal fuel economy requirements.

Speaking of the Suzuki and Tracker, they quit making those in 2004, so everyone you see is at least 7 years old. My Tracker is an 03, and has almost 200K miles on it, and still going strong. Very little has been done to it over the years, it's been very good to me.

My dad has a Suzuki Sidekick he tows behind his RV. it's a really fun vehicle to drive and is the vehicle I choose as my run about whenever I go home. My wife is thinking of quiting her job to be a stay at home wife (we have no kids :icon_rolleyes: i know i know....) so I'll be getting a dirt cheap commuter. If I could find a good Sidekick I'd jump on it.

I like your bullet points, and I think they should offer this one now, except I have no need for a Geiger counter.

Optional "Civil Defense" package with shovel, NOAA weather radio, CB, first-aid kit, tent, CD geiger counter
But CB, weather radio, shovel, first aid kit, and I'd add maybe a farm jack and flashlight. Oh, and places to use the jack on the vehicle, not like now.

That rendering looks cool. I don't like the front bumper but the headlights and "Compass like" grille look good along with the body lines that we can see. It'd be cool in a 2 door option in my opinion but that's asking too much of Jeep's manufacturing plants I'm sure

Kind of reminds me of those new 2 door Range Rovers that just came out.

It kinda does lol after reading that short article though, it doesn't sound like it's going to be a 4wd option? It doesn't say anything about it being offered as a fwd/4wd vehicle. It just says;

"The all-new Jeepster might be named the Scamp when it will hit the market and rumors say that it will come as a four-door, with front-wheel drive and a choice of a 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter engines, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission."

I would like to see this model in the states if it is available in the fwd/4wd versions. BTW, the Patriot may not be replaced. Found a article about that a few weeks ago. It's gonna get a redesign in 2014 (probably released in 2013?) but it may or may not get a name change. That's good for us Pat lovers :p
