There is a report on healthystuff.org about the toxicity of car interiors. I'm sure most have seen it. What do you all think? Will it influence your next car purchase?

think others dont want the same?
think we let junior play with the tailpipe as we idle the car?
or move that diesel generator into the kids room so it doesnt contaminate my organic garden?

as others stated , everything is hazardous, whether companies and feds disclose it or not,
would be more concerned with what that baby is eating/drinking/wearing/playing with all day, as opposed to the few hrs it may spend in a car.
feds have to balance between what will kill you and what will kill corporate profits/taxes.
all those lead laden toys from china? who do you think made/designed/ordered those toys? it was US companies, but feds didnt dare penalize them for it.

I didn't read the report, but only because I feel its unnecessary to read. I could merely write a book titled Everything:How It's Killing You.

Anything we put in our bodies can be found to be detrimental to our health, whether in small amounts or large. The plastics in cars unhealthy? NSS(no **** sherlock) That tailpipe ain't pumping out pure oxygen, y'know? I would be willing to be the air in my apartment is more dangerous than the air outside and this ain't country living.

My brain is exhausted with all these studies. Lets start solving more important problems first, then move on to these types of issues.

To answer your question-not even a consideration.

Everything:How It's Killing You.
LMAO

Ah, that new car smell... that's what he's talkin' 'bout. That new-car smell is offgasing of the plastics, and lots of petro-products offgas, especially when new. Mattresses, too.

yup, everything will kill ya. Yeah, its better not to expose a baby to these chemicals. Good luck figuring out how to go about doing that. We live in a chemical soup.

I hear Patagonia and Antarctica are still pretty clean

Wanna good laugh? Watch a few choice folks here in Berkeley drive themselves bonkers trying to live a chem-free lifestyle. We got a few folks walkin' 'round in surgical masks and gloves here, with special hats and jackets. *Real* special. Funny as hell to watch them trying to dodge cigarette smoke as they weave their way down the sidewalks. (Why they live in an urban area, and why they walk next to cars belching fumes while trying to dodge cigarette smote, I'll never understand,. But then agin, there's an awful lot of inexplicable crap goin' on here, and too much of it can be explained by mental illness)

Remember when ''detox' meant a trip to rehab, instead of some liquid shot up yer backside? Then again, I reckon most of you live where yer still using the 'old' definition. ;)

My Pappy once said, "its important to keep an open mind, but not one so open that all yer marbles fall out."

All this worry about the car's plastics offgassing, I assume you've installed air purifiers and de-ionizers in the baby's room and the rest of the house? Did you buy an organic mattress and blanket for her that doesnt offgas? Gonna spend more time at home and in bed than anywhere else...

but keep it up, and yer gonna go bald prematurely!

Now, where's my cigs?

mortem scelerisque! Death by chocolate!

I swear this 'new car smell' hysteria rears itself every 10 years. This isn't the first time I've heard of this. My solution is to not buy new cars! Let the first owner get gassed to death and take the depreciation hit...I'm happy to come along 4-5 years later when it's safe to breathe the interior air and it's lost 30-40% of it's value. :)

Every thing is Toxic !!!!!! House carpets , Paint , Furniture , Pillows , bedding , soft toys , clothing etc etc , it all gives off something you dont want . Doesnt bother me , I used to spray paint for a living & smoked for 50 yrs . Too much Sun is Toxic ...so stay indoors !!

OY! The stuff people worry about and try and get others all worked up over just makes me shake my head( I don't mean the OP - I mean the people that come up with this CRAP! ). As the other member said somewhere, someone, has said something most everyone uses/likes will kill you. Heck, they just came out with a big report that WHEAT is now bad for us.

Life is too short. Find a vehicle you like and that meets your needs and don't fall victim to the fear mongers and those looking for attention by scaring you. If it makes you feel any better I have bought 12 new vehicle since 1988( all but 4 have been Chrysler products )and I am still alive.

I downloaded the report. They only list the 2009 Patriot, and the interior has been redone since then, so no way to know what the 2012 is like.

And based on their data, things have really improved sine they started checking.

I wouldn't worry about it myself. Besides I have this annoying (at least to my wife) habit of always driving with my window open.

Yea I like to drive with the sunroof cracked.

Don't forget about the lead laden air from the cars exhaust in front of you!

You know they have a name for that new car smell (or rather a name for the process of the plastic out-gassing). The official term is "Plasticizers in migration".

To the OP, while I'm sure it's not the best environment for a baby, you can't really get away from it. About the only suggestion I have is open the windows for a few minutes prior to putting the baby in the car.

Oh great. I live in a town called "The Granite City" chuck full of radon gas. I've been scraping an painting my house built in 1919, and to top it off I've driven 75000 miles in a Jeep Patriot. If you never see any more posts, you'll know what happened. I'm so dead.

Chaibill I would not touch the 2012 Patriot I just read the report and I was driving down the highway I started to feel woozy and called the paramedics. They have called in the hazmat team and now it looks like a scene out of ET. My patriot is is under a plastic tent and government officials dressed in all black are all around the scene. Be afraid be very afraid.

I have enclosed a photo of them rinsing off after examining my Patriot.
