I look over about 100 construction workers at night as their Safety Manager.
We lost two of our co-workers in two seperate auto accidents over the holidays. They died becuase they were NOT WEARING SAFETY BELTS! Both of them were in their twenties.
That leaves 3 tiny children between them that will never see their Dads again.
It just takes about five seconds.

When I was younger and stupid - well more stupid, I never used a seatbelt. Then I bought a 1971 Corvette Stingray LT1. The power and torque from the Vette twists you out of your seat and thus out of your control of the vehicle. That was over 30 years ago. I have buckled up ever since.

How does a mom tell her children that their daddy won't be coming home any more?

2 Weeks ago a former co-worker and her husband ran off the road, she died and he's in serious condition. She had 2 kids and 2 step kids that she left behind. Both her and the husband did not have seat belts on.

I'm just so used to having it on because of the job...flying planes.

Good Message.....

I am surprised there are some who still do not wear seatbelts. Only takes a moment. If you do not care for yourself, at least do it for your loved ones....

Thank-you for sharing......

While a seatbelt won't gurantee you'll survive a crash, it greatly enhances your chances of survival. A family friend died last year after sliding thru a stop sign into the path of a semi. He was wearing his seatbelt but died from a broken neck.

Sometimes you can do everything right, and end up dead wrong.

561107, Sorry to hear about the loss of your co-workers. Very sad that people ignore the warnings.

Many years ago, while stationed in Virginia Beach, VA, I read a traffic safety report that stated during a four day holiday weekend, I think it was during Thanksgiving, no one in the state of Virginia had died while buckled up. This said alot to me. Ever since, the vehicle doesn't move until everyone's seat belt is buckled.

The statistics don't lie.
Seat Belts Saves Lives!
BUCKLE UP!

Thank you for your thoughts and condolences. We all have stories of someone that was lost from carlessness. As a construction safety specialist I preach about carenessness killing more people than wars. It is true. Safety is awareness.
Here at the job site we have raised over $7,000. to give to the families of each of these boys. This is from men and women that have left their homes to work here to support their families. I am proud of them.

Very sad story. Here in Canada the use of the seatbelt is a law.I've been wearing my seatbelt long before it was mandatory... for many good reasons:

When I was a kid, I almost broke my nose in a frontal collision at low speed, being pushed forward from the backseat hitting front seat backrest. No seatbelt at that time!

Here is another reason : When I was young, speeding was fun on scenic routes, hills and curves. An amateur racing driver once told me the seatbelt also allows the driver to remain in a maximum position for driving performance. No slidding sideways or forward. I love the felling of being braced. It brings more confidence and better performance in the act of driving, not having to worry about impact nor about loosing your maximum driving position or being able to react in the eventuality of losing driving control without having to try to hold your seat position.

Wear it for others, wear it for you, wear it for safety, wear it for a very securing driving feeling. It's a part of the whole when driving. No logical reason can be evoque to justify the fact of not using it.
