Many of you may have noticed that my posts here slowed down last week.
The reason?

I finally found some time to start the 3d model of my Pat using Autocad!!
It's my first attempt of car modeling, so this might take some time...

This thread will be used for some extreme exterior mods that I (and you) will do to my virtual Patriot. Your helpful recomendations on this project will be always welcome, don't be afraid to propose (photos or sketches would be nice) your wildest dreams about your dream Patriot.

I'll keep you informed of the job progress.
Here is a preview of the 3d model so far:

Looking good Deres.

Sorry to hear about the architect problem though :D

I'm a civil engineer and we are constantly butting heads with the project architects.

keep on building Deres....very nice!

And we await that project, fully understanding that it will be occupied by bikini wearing lasses!

JoeBecker was just kidding. He is one of the coolest guys in this forum and I would accept and lough at everything that he might said... Oink:D

Btw Yiannis, how much the startech package costs in Cyprus?

Nice work Deres. I'm currently teaching myself Autodesk Inventor. What do you use to draw up the 3-D Patriot?

I spent a year in the 3.5 year Masters in Architecture program at SUNY at Buffalo. Hated the professors, my undergraduate is in Electrical Engineering, so I definitely was butting heads with the artsy architect types. Glad to hear you're not one of them!

Oh, and in college, a Mechanical Engineering friend of mine turned a car trunk into a hot tub! Used the heat from the exhaust to warm the water!

Very nice job Deres. Have you ever tried 3d studio max? It would look absolutely realistic. You can import from dwg's. I use ArchiCAD for drawing, but when it comes to 3d's, I give it to a friend of mine that works with 3d studio. Great result.

Looks awesome Deres.

I, too, am glad that you are not one of "those" architects. I am a structural engineer who got his degree in Architectural Engineering. That pretty much means that while I had my focus on structural classes, I also studied mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and construction management as well as having architecture courses (3 architecture history classes and 4 architecture studio classes.... man did I hate those all nighters at least once per week)...

In one of our studio classes the professor (an architect) came over to my friend and this conversation took place:
Prof. "That looks nice, but where did you break the rules?".
Friend, "I didn't break any rules."
Prof. "Exactly, you should be breaking the rules...."
Friend "Listen, I am a structural engineer in an architecture class... In real life if I break the rules, you die... you do not want to teach me to break the rules"
Prof. "This is a studio class, you are supposed to pretend you are an architect"
Friend "I will never be, or even pretend to be an architect.... I like logic..."

The model looks good though. That is one thing I do miss from the studio classes: making 3d digital models...

HEY! haha you posted this about 5 seconds after I posted asking if anyone made a model of it!!

I'm using inventor and solidworks, any chance you could save the file and find a way to move it? I'm more concerned with the frame members under the front if you had done any of that, but even if you didn't, I could start with your front end and then continue with the underside from there... your call if you wanted to share or not... but I would totally appreciate it!

Hi Darsey, this is Deres, sorry I didn't read your post earlier.
If I got it right, you want to use my 3d model as a base to redesign and built your own custom front. I have no problem at all to e-mail it to you, but you must know that I made it using photos and some elevation sketches that I scanned from the Jeep Patriot brochure, I didn't take any measuraments. That means that it's not accurate at all (especially for your purpose!).
It is also my first attempt on 3d modelling, some solids and 3d faces are cursorily made and sometimes they don't even fit to each other.
If you still want it, let me know...

I am very impressed with those Images----Hey someone who knows how to use a computer properly!!!

#30 ·
Wow! Can these images be used to program lathes or create actual parts? (I'm a little ignorant on the whole manufacturing process) If so, how about off road front and rear bumpers! I'm thinking SEMA :)

I would have modelling a Pat in Softimage XSI but lacks of hires 3view to make it accurate.

Deres, I think you should offer your help solving the multi-problem olympic stadium of Montreal built for the games of 1976.:smiley_thumbs_up:

Parts of contour ciment ring fell, roof canvas was wriped off and snow droppped in, many cracks in ciment foundations. The retracting roof never worked!

This was supposed to be the «nec plus ultra» by french architect Tailbert (sorry if misspelled). A big hole in the citizens finances. Many many times the initial estimated cost:mad:

They even thought of demolishing it, all suggestions are too expensive. Why didn't the government choose a Canadian (from Quebec) architech that new the weather (winds, cold snow, heat, rain, etc.) and its effects in this part of the world (guys like Bombardier or Lavalin).:( Maybe they'd give you a chance? ;)Not sure you would like it:)

hey guys, yes those models can be used in manufacturing... Just takes some transferring between programs. The autocad model can be imported to inventor as a solid body, but those bodies can be copied and given mechanical properties. Basically, if you have a model that could be described as a bent steel sheet, then inventor would give a flat pattern to lasercut, and showing dimensions where to weld... And something that would go into a Cnc mill or lathe can be coded using programs like MasterCam etc... Good stuff. This is how I'll be making my new front end on my 09 pat. Pretty pumped about it, I'll have to post shop pictures and share the specs etc. ...
