Uncomfortable front seat

Hi guys, just got an 09 Patriot. Great ride but the front seat is a bit uncomfortable and seems to lack leg support. Any ideas, or products to help?

I’m 6’2” and had back surgery. In stating this, the Pat’s seat is very comfortable for me, but have to tweak it a bit after my wife uses it. Pardon the pun, but the tweaking is pretty much down “pat” now. My setting is first drop the seat to the lowest setting, then back up two pumps, move the back rest up slightly, then move the seat up about 3 inches.

I’m sure you’ll find a setting or two which works for you.

I think you will eventually find your comfort zone. Took me about a month of fiddling with the levers to finally find the sweet spot. Imagine how ticked I was after a service visit and finding out the tech had adjusted the seat. Now when I take my Riot in for service I make sure they write "Do Not Adjust Drivers Seat" on the ticket.

They should be able to drive the car 100 feet without changing the seat. I always find mine all the way back against the back seat. I feel like a small child when I pick up my car.

Okay. While we're on the subject of uncomfortable seats. My partner is a very tiny 5ft tall and has a complaint about the adjustment bar that runs the width of the passenger seat. It does stick out from the seat somewhat and being so small, her legs actually rest on the bar and is uncomfortable on the longer journey's. does this happen to anyone else? and is there a remedy?
Thanks

I Will occasionally bump my heels on the bar. I need to have the seat pretty far up to engage the clutch. It isn't enough of a problem to warrant a change for me. However, the only thing I could think of would be to cut out the center of the bar and weld in a new cross member farther back.

I'm 6'2" and find the seat very comfortable and loads of leg room. I think the seat adjustments vary from package to package. My, much shorter, wife finds the passenger seat, that has minimal adjustment, to be very uncomforable - and hot. I build up the floor for her and that helps some. Still trying to figure out what would be best. It's an important issue that discourages her from going out with me for extended off-road treks.

I had the same problem as you. Funny for me is I almost didn't buy my Patriot after the second test drive because my legs hurt for two days after. However what I found was if you look at the seat when you put it down it goes further back which is what I had to do. Now I find it very comfortable minus one small annoyance that I had to correct.

On either side of the seat there is a piece of metal the runs the length of the seat and I had to bend them back so that they were not cutting into my legs. I am 6,5 and now that I have made the corrections I find the Jeep very comfortable. I also purchased a Gel Seat Cushion just in case in future I need it.

Enjoy your Jeep Patriot! :D

Seat discomfort

I think I'm having the same issue described above. I didn't notice it on any of the test drives but on a 2 hour drive I felt a definite metal edge pressing into the outer edge of my upper legs. Do you have to remove the seat cover to get access to that metal support? Which way did you bend it? At first I thought it was the top edge of the plastic trim on the seat sides but there is definitely a metal support strip towards the outer edge of the seat bolsters. My wife doesn't notice this at all so I guess this is an individual fit issue.

I was also sooooo disappointed when I test drove my Pat. I'm 5ft5in but don't have the longest legs and only size 3 feet so I have to have my seat really far forward (but the back rest back so that I don't look like I'm eating my steering wheel – I hate that look) and plastic bit under the steering column really cut into my legs... I was heart broken ( but the salesman made me pull over and pumped the seat down as far as it would go and hey-presto It was fine.. phew!
Saying that my husband can’t find a comfortable driving position at all… but its my car and means he doesn’t drive it often hehe

One of the deciding factors for me when purchasing was the comfort of the front seat and driving position. I'm 6' and the Pat is on par with my prior Grand Cherokees and way better than my wife's Liberty (no dead pedal or space for left foot).

The benefit to me at 6'4" with 35" inseam for most power adjustable seats is the ability to lower the rear of the seat bottom and raise the front, for leg support. Yet with the MK's adjustable height seat, I have not had any problems with my up to 1hr commute. play with the combination of seat height, recline, and steering wheel tilt angle to find a solution. sometimes it means sitting higher or lower than you are used to.

Another 6' 2" er here too. Much better than my XJ. The up/down adjustment seems to be the key along with the seat back angle. Seats are comfortable. I am watching for wrecked Patriots so I can get a pair of front seats for my Eagle -- looks like a good fit for it.

The only issue I had/have is the plastic lever to adjust the back rest of the front passenger side. went to adjust that seat for the first time and damn thing just spun around. Upon pulling it out discovered that the seating of this lever was broken. Seems like it was broken upon installing at the factory. Gotta wait a week for a new one (dealer didnt have the color I needed) but gladly adjusted the seat to a more comfortable angle until then.

I think lumbar adjustment should be standard on all cars but this is easily compensated with aftermarket products that provide lumbar support. Overall the seat is comfortable as it is. Need to give the seat a bit of time to "soften" up a bit and mold itself to my body. Would love a "memory foam" seat!

I found the seat in mine to be one of the best I've ever had in a car. I have nagging hip and knee issues in my right leg and just made a trip from Michigan to Georgia and back without issue. Making the same trip in the Kia Sedona I just traded in would result in me having to get out and walk around to calm down the pain before having to stop for a fill up, same with my Blazer. I can't tell you what it is thats actually different about the Patriot seat, but I like it!

I had the same issue, it took me a month to find the right position, in the beginning I always bumped my knee to the steeringcolumn in the middle. It was so bad I had a blue knee for a week ..

Now that I found my position and the correct way to get into the seat, no more complaints :smiley_thumbs_up:

I am miserable in the front passenger seat of my wife's 08 Pat. I have never before experienced claustrophobia and now it haunts me. Sure there is plenty of forward leg room, but if you spread your legs out side to side then you are crammed up against the door and the center counsel. I used to argue with our daughter over "shot gun", but now she can have it. However, with "shot gun" comes control of the radio and I can handle only so much Disney! I now have to get in the back seat and those seat bottoms are so narrow that none of my 165 lbs are carried by my legs, but rather by my bottom. Cannot wait until our first 8 hour trip when I insist on driving the 1500 Ram and get 12 mpg! That should go over well

I have noticed that it's difficult to find a perfectly comfortable setting sometimes for long rides. I also have the FDI sport so no seat height adjustment... so my top two complaints are:
1. Seat distance...i feel like i am either hitting my legs on the steering column, or I am stretching for the steering wheel. I usually opt for the latter, but th confort could be improved greatly if there were some good armrests at a proper height, so I could one-hand steer more comfortably, with-out the other arm hanging free or in my lap.
2. What is up with the head-rests? I am only 5'7" and when I have the head-rest at the highest position my head still rests along the top cross-section. It's not very comfortable that way, plus I feel like if I had a collision and my head whipped back I would knock myself unconscious on that thing. It's like getting being bludgeoned with a blunt object at the part of your head where it meets the soft part of the neck.

No complaints-----As comfortable & user friendly as any car I've driven. Dont forget my Steering wheel is on the OTHER side & my Gas pedal is down by the offside front wheel , not crammed down by the Centre console hump!!Oh & all UK Pats have hight adjust seats.

Compared to my 92 Wrangler and my 02 Xterra, I've had nothing but great things to say about my 09 Pat!!! They may be the most comfortable seats I've sat in to date. I'm actually looking forward to a trip home to PA for a change because I'm pretty confident I won't be in pain when I get there.

My only complaint (and I'm still working on finding the perfect location for my seat) is that my shins touch the bottom of the dash. It's funny because when I got into an accident in my Wrangler, the only problem I had was that my shins hit the bottom of the dash on impact... so, I've just come to the conclusion that it's a Jeep thing... btw, I don't have the seat pump in my Patriot... that may help otherwise (and I'm 5'3")...

My wife complained when we first got our Pat that the seats were too firm. She liked our old '98 Grand seats better because they were a softer ride. After long trips though, her back would bother her. We went on a 14 hour drive coming home in the Pat and said her back did not bother her at all. "I guess firmer is better" she said. Spoken like a woman.

So I guess we can consider the Patriot as an orthopedically correct vehicle now!

Firmness usually prevents back pain. It's either too soft or too hard hat usually bothers a person. Firmness is good.

("Firmness is good." <--- That sounds so... uhhh... u get the picture of what I am saying.)

Wow, I am very surprised to hear so many people find the Pat seats comfortable. My fiance and I trying to figure out what to do because we both find them very lacking in comfort - mostly lower back support is our complaint. I am 6' and 175lbs and she is 5'4" and 120 lbs. I don't feel cramped at all I just think the seats stink!! My Silverado and Subaru Legacy both are great for both of us on road trips, but the Pat kills us!!
