Turn Signal On = Headlight Off. Normal?

I have a 2011 Patriot, Canadian version, this means that day time running headlights are on as soon as the car is shifted out of park.
I've noticed that when either the left or right turn signal is on the corresponding head light switches off. This only effects the daytime running lights, not the full night time headlights.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is normal? I'm thinking it could be so that the turn signal is fully visible from approaching vehicles during the day? If not, I have an electrical problem?

Thx

Its a strange MOPAR , American idea . Its so the indictor flasher shows up better than the headlamp. This systen would probably be deemed highly ileagal in UK/Euro .

Agreed but, they want you to buy it, they want this really bad, their not gonna talk to you about something that might turn you off.

I noticed another car make blinking at me earlier this week, pretty sure it was an Audi if I recall correctly.

And have no daytime running lights at all ... tried all variations before I found it buried deep in the manual. And yes, this should have been (and definately wasn't) covered by someone before driving it off - and should also have been covered (and wasn't) before taking a test drive.

Lifting the e-brake on my M5 PAT turns off the DRLs. I think the DRLs piss off the gate guards that check IDs where I work.
