I think I know the answer but really wanted to confirm. I have a 2010 pat 4x4 which I love, its time to put new tires on her though and that's where i hit a snag. It has the 205 70r 16 on it now which is a bummer since they are expensive and lack options. So from what o have read i should be able to put either 215 70r 16s or 225 70r 16s on my stock 16 inch rims and not have any rubbing or other issues ( except for a small speedo change) with them being on my stock pat. Is that correct? Also if this works i may get anpther set of steel rims for a dedicated set of winter tires (nh can be rough) do i have tp add pressure sensors to those rims or will they be fine without them? Thanks guys

Any of those size tires will fit with the stock suspension. any additional change in total diameter will change the speedometer. if you have a tpms on your vehicle you will need sensors! sometimes the sensors are interchangeable.

Well, you don't really "need" sensors...its just without them you get the idiot light on all the time. And probably on the Pat the low tire warning in the dash.

So you'd probably want sensors.

4 pack of sensors are available on eBay for not too much and from all accounts they set themselves by doing a decent long highway run so you needn't pay the dealer.

great job with the specifics METAXA! you forgot to mention...A piece of tape works for some! A simple solution:)

Throw some Hankook Optimo H727's on there and you will be good to go year round. No need for winter tires. The H727's are very good in the snow and they last a longt time.

Get some 215/65R16's. They are very close to your 205/70 OE tire size so very little speedo difference. The 215/65's are only about 1/4" shorter and less than 1/2" wider. They will fit no problem. With the 215/65's the speedo is only off by approx 1/2 MPH.

205/70R16:
27.29 OD
8.07 SW

215/65R16:
27.00 OD
8.47 SW

You should be able to get them in the 215/65 size for around $85-$95 p/tire. IF you do it soon there is a rebate on( $50 when you buy a set of 4 ).

I wouldn't go smaller. You can put 215/70/16 which is very close to the largest OE size and you wouldn't have any rubbing issues. Your speedo will be very close as well.

215/70R16's put the speedo off almost 1.5 MPH @ 60 MPH. That is why I suggested the 216/65's.

either way hankook optimo h727's are an amazing tire!

For winter I went with General Altimax Arctics 205/65/16.
For summer I got Wild Country (generic label from VIP) 215/70/16.

Neither rubs and the speedometer difference is miniscule.

Those Generals are like velcro in the snow. I live in NH and travel throughout NH and Maine on all kinds of roads. Frankly, unless you're into off-roading, there is no need for 4wd if your road agent does the roads every few hours. 3-4" is not even close to a problem for a FWD Patriot with good snow tires.

The Wild Country tires have had 2 replaced for defects, and one for a legitimate flat tire (screw in tread too close to sidewall to be patched) -- 3 outta 4! I'm practically on new rubber a year later! However, I wouldn't mind if they wore out. They're noisy on the road and not very good in snow.

IMHO the stock Goodyear LS2s weren't all that bad -- I read a lot of cynical reviews, but in my experience they were certainly a very acceptable tire. They were a good highway tire, well above average in the rain, and they worked well enough in snow. I used them the first year I had my Patriot and never had a problem. Even took them off-road (in a situation I didn't intend to be in -- mud, ice snow, you name it) and they did their part to get me out of a pickle. Wore out kinda quick, though.

As for the TPMS sensors, no you don't need them; we all got by for a century without them. Just check them once in a while. However, in my state the vehicle won't pass inspection with an idiot light on, so you'll have to get inspected with the wheels that have the TPMS sensors installed.

I also LOVE the Hankook Optimo H727. Rated for 100,000 miles and Consumer Reports called it the #2 overall best all-season tire. We have them on the Pat and my wife's Ford Freestar. Incredible tire!
