Snow, ice, freezing rain, and frigid temperatures make winter driving treacherous; nevertheless you're prepared, right? But what about your wiper blades?

If they're the same ones that baked on your windshield all summer then you could be in for problems. How do you know if your wiper blades are any good? At no time of the year is seeing out of your windshield more important, and more difficult, than in winter. Quality wiper blades should evenly and effectively squeegee water out of their path in both directions no matter what speed you're going. Soft rubber compounds necessary for wiper performance are always under attack by road grit, the sun, acid rain, tree sap, ice, and especially winter salt. Arm your car or truck with Rain-X Glass Treatment and Rain-X wipers.

Rain-X Latitude 8-In-1 Wiper Blades are the ultimate blades for sleet and snow. Unlike conventional wiper blade frames, the Latitude's beam design won't collect ice and snow, which can freeze conventional frames to the point where the blade no longer contacts the windshield. With Latitude blades you won't have to interrupt your trip to clear ice and snow from wiper blade frames, only to have them freeze again. Also Rain-X develops a line of related glass care products. Because Rain-X Glass Treatment requires the glass surface to be perfectly clean, Rain-X X-treme Clean is the perfect glass cleaner. It removes dirt, grime, and bugs, plus build-up that other cleaners leave behind, from glass and clear plastic. Rain-X 2-In-1 Glass Cleaner not only cleans, it also applies a rain repellent to improve wet weather driving. Click here to see how exactly it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTpfaxI5DSI

I'm a firm believer in Rain-X windshield treatment. My Father turned me on to that 25 years ago and the stuff is truly amazing. It works great on our Patriot, but on the Wrangler not so good, I think because of the steep windshield angle and the water beads don't blow off. With the less erect angle of the Patriot the water just flows off onto the roof.

I don't need wipers presently, but I may try the Latitude. The single strut makes sense in ice & snow. Regular wipers have so many joints to freeze up, and conventional all-weather wipers just encase them in a rubber boot that provides more surface area for ice to cling to. Hence, neither really works well in ice & snow. As I said, the single strut seems to make more sense, as long as it will make consistent surface contact throughout the sweep.

I have the latitudes on the Commander and the flaw with them is that they don't conform to the curvature of the glass so you get reduced visibility. There is a section of blade that does not even touch the glass. As ice builds up under that area it begins lifting more of the blade off the glass and the issue just gets worse. I had the same trouble on the Charger with a competitor's beam design.

I have had very good luck with PIAA super silicone blades on my TJ. I think I made a post on here when I bought them, but I think they're 3 years old now and still going strong. They also come with a generic version of rain-x on a handy wipe that you put on first. They say it's some silicone something or other but it seemed to me like it's PDMS, same stuff that's in rain-x. I treat all of my windshields with rain-x I really do believe in that product, however I think if your vehicle did not come with beam design blades from the factory you're likely to have problems with them.

Maybe someone should have a vehicle-specific wiper blade, made to conform to the shape of this particular windshield. As it is, the tips of my blades don't touch the glass. I get about 80% coverage. Frankly, I think I've had this problem on almost every vehicle I've owned, the exception being the Wranglers because the windshield is just plain flat.
