I wonder when we will read about the clown that hooks the tent up over the exaust pipe then starts the vehicle to listen to the radio.......
If it wasn't so expensive I'd consider it. You can get a pretty nice tent and gear for $300.

 

Have you seen it in person? I have seen that online before, but it is a little pricey to buy without knowing much else.

 

I'll be able to speak for an air mattress this weekend. I'll be camping out in the Pat this weekend.

 

Why don't you get a 4 inch thick foam pad and cut it to size, I'ts a lot more comfortable than an air mattress. Also air mattresses suck all the heat from your body unless they are covered with a thick blanket or a sleeping bag.

 

I imagine that the air mattress will would fold up smaller when not in use, no? And I do have a good sleeping bag for when its cold, so I am not too worried about that.

 

Thermarest self inflating sleeping pads... excellent R-value for warmth, thicknesses up to 2.5 inches thinck and they self inflate then roll up easily. Then buy a two man tent and just set it up next to your Jeep. You dont have to spend a lot of money on one since it doesnt need to be light as you will be car camping. I personally have a Kelty Teton 2, but it is really light weight for my backpacking trips and runs about $120

 

i went camping in my jeep and my air matress didn't fit in it (it was a double). Ended up swapping with a buddy who was using a foam pad in his tent. He used the air mattress I brought up and I used the foam pad. Next time, I'm bringing the foam pad.

Keep in mind I'm 5'8" and I had to sleep on an angle. I had put the rear seats down and the front passenger seat down. My feet had to rest on the front passenger seat. Also if you place your head at the tailgate area you will angle downwards so I had to use an extra sleeping back to lay down to make sure my back was straight and not angled down.

i dont understand why you would sleep inside the patriot when you can sleep inside a tent in just 3 more minutes.

 

Id like to know if its a perfect seal around the vehicle that will prohibit bugs/mosquitoes or other annoying things from entering the tent area...

 

Although the tent that attaches to the Patriot looks good on paper not sure it would be that great in the field. If you look at the manual there are a lot of caveats and precautions to follow. The one about the paint on the Patriot concerns me a bit.

I think you would be better off simply sleeping in the Patriot with a foam, pad or air mattress. $200 would purchase a very nice stand alone tent.
