i always thought that if a clutch was worn it was more likely to slip in the higher gears? 1st 2nd etc...? or is it the other way around

if your guy is willing to have a look, why not....or your normal mechanic?

i'm pretty sure that if the clutch is slipping it's fairly easy to diagnose, i would drive in second, ticking over at say 1500rpm (on a very quiet straight flat dry road) pull on the handbrake a notch or two, so you can feel it engage, then accelerate, with the added drag caused by the brake, the clutch should slip sooner, or try it up a hill with a heavy trailer, or 5 fat friends.....you get the idea....

i had the same thing happen to me on a renault scenic rx4 i previously owned.
i had the ecu reprogrammed,gained 30 horse power,but encountered exactly what you said.
i changed the clutch in the end and it dissapeared.
but i sold it now,and i think that at some point it will come back,as the engine has more momentum now.
that's why i now stay away from remapping.

 

Well, I went back to the centre who did the remapping, and they changed a few settings, tested it again, no loss of hp or torque, but the slipping is gone, and I had some sort of vibration at 2300rpm, and that is gone to .. did not have to pay any extra ..so I'm happy now ..

 

Just wondering what the problem was with the slipping gearbox
