I drive 7.5 miles to work every day.
For the past couple weeks, I have gotten into the habit of reseting the average MPG when I leave the house in the morning.
It is a 45 mph zone for 6 miles then it goes to 40 then 35 for the last 1/2 mile.
I set the cruise on 50 when I leave the house and don't slow down until I hit the 35 zone.
There are several stop lights along the route.
I started out getting around 26 MPG.
Over the weekend Pete (my PAT) passed 1500 miles (got 1620 now).
Well this morning, on the way in, I saw 30.2 Avg mpg.
This is 4 mpg better then what I saw on Friday.
I don't drive any different.
I can only think that I didn't hit any red lights on the way in.
Does the computer 'break' the vehicle in and then once it hits a certain number of miles it changes the tuning??

What was the weather like?

As it has warmed up around here (Indianapolis) my in-town mileage has gone from fighting for 20 MPG when 0°F to 24 MPG when it is about 70°F. This morning on my drive in to work I got 22 MPG with an ambient temp of 40°F.

I don't drive on the interstate much during the week. When I was on the interstate (65 to 70 MPH) for an extended time I got 28 MPG when it was 60°F.

Seems to me that somewhere around 75°F might be the sweet spot.

A guy like AZCycle or some other warm climate driver could give better information on warmer temperatures. I have not had mine yet through summer.

I am looking to buy a Patriot in the near future. I have asked my dealer to bring in a couple of 4x2's on the basis that the mileage is better on them than 4x4's. Anyone who is hitting 30 mpg is doing great especially with the start and starts you might incur with the stop lights. Even 26 was good. Joe is right re the weather and mpg.

Yep! At least that is what I've heard... that the first 1500 miles or so is under the Pat's break-in period and it deliberately holds itself back until then. For what it's worth, I saw a rise in MPG once I passed the break-in period.

My mileage stays pretty consistent throughout the seasons. I do notice a slight hit in MPG when I'm running the a/c in the high heat of summer (highs around 110 degrees F).
