Hi,
Just got a brand new Patiot 4x4 FDII. I'd like to hear some opinions on if I should have Ziebart rustproof and/or undercoat it? I have a 2002 Liberty Limited with 130K on it and had the paint protection, interior protection and rustproof/undercoating - have had it refreshed every year and it looks great. (see attached) I do take it out in the woods and it has scratches, but looks great at 20 feet! I believe the Diamond Gloss paint protection is worth the $250 and the interior is looking great, but I am thinking of only going with the paint protection and maybe the undercoating for road noise. I am thinking of skipping the rustproofing because I'm told new vehicles don't really need it and also skipping the interior service because the Patriot has stain repellent cloth seats which I plan to put some covers on. (but only cheapies) The whole package for paint, interior, rust and underbody is $700!! Then you pay $180/year for the refresh.

So, any opinions?

Do not have the interior done! YES Essentials (Manufacturer of the fabric) recommend against any protection being added.

You likely do not need any rust protection, undercoating is a toss up. Ziebart is good as they use a oil/tar product that will not trap moisture and it does a great job as you said.

warranty info, let me know!

Thanks, be sure to post anything about the warranty. I had my Wife's HHR done in the Fall and asked my Ziebart guy about warranty, he basically said their process does not void any warranty, but then of course he would. We had the Chevy dealer do the rustproofing and paint. For the Patriot I am thinking of going with Ziebart for anything I do, want to make sure the company that puts it on will stand behind it if you know what I mean! ;)

If it is brand new within 30 days, I would reccomend going to your dealer and find out if they offer the Mopar Mastershield product. As long as you apply it within 30 days of buying the car, you will get a 3 year warranty on paint protection (you can renew at the end of the 3 year period). Same goes for the fabric protection. The Undercoating is Lifetime warranty with no reapplication necessary. Same goes for the rust protection and the leather protector (if you have leather of course). Plus this will not void any warranty as it is an authorized Mopar part. I think it is far superior to Zeibart. I have the paint sealant on my Patriot, as well as on my previous car. All you have to do is wash it and it looks like you just spent 4 hours waxing it.

I am talking to Chrysler warranty department right now they said as long as it does not cover any components drain plugs ect. it will NOT void the warranty if the undercoat causes something to go wrong then it is not covered.

The only thing that will "void" your warranty out-right, is if the car is totaled or flooded. Modifications dont automatically void the warranty, but if those mods cause a failure, that specific repair will not be covered under warranty.
(example: if you add aftermarket keyless entry and after your door panels rattle, this would not be covered, due to a non-chrysler shop taking them off to install door locks, but if a brake caliper seizes, that would be coverd because it obviously had nothing to do with the keyless entry being installed)

I could have sworn I read thyat about undercoating voiding warranty also. Left my manual at the house and am at the office right now.

Yes I read that also so I called them via their 1800 Number and they said its ok as long as no components are covered.I too am interested to undercoating, just be sure they only coat the metal and not the electric connectors or drain plugs if would impede with any repairs then it would void it.

Sounds like the OEM Mopar Rustproofing might be the best bet. If they screw it up (improper application), then they're responsible. You can bet that if another company does the rustproofing, Chrysler/Jeep will look for any reason to void warranty if problems do occur.

read the body warranty section, any rustproofing voids the body warranty, even the "mopar" stuff Im pretty sure its not mopar, verify with dealer because odds are they ship it out
The Mopar product is called Mastershield. It will NOT void any warranty and is installed at the dealer, by dealership staff. If they send it out, then it isn't Mastershield. The only issue is not all dealers use this product, and you have to install it within 30 days after purchasing the car. But again, this will NOT void any warranty.

Again, which page are you reading this on?

I cannot find anywhere that undercoating or rustproofing voids the warranty.
It doesnt (at least I couldn't find it). It says aftermarket rustproofing is not covered under the warranty. If you use the MOPAR stuff within the time peramters I stated earlier, then it is covered, under the Mastershield warranty.

Page 17 of the 2009 warranty information booklet...

section 3.1 "Some Modifications Don't void the warranties BUT aren't Covered"

"Applying rustproofing or other protection products;" is mentioned as an example of a type of "alteration not covered". BUT... at the begining of this section it states that "using special non-Chrysler materials or additives." is an example of some of the changes that will NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY. Rustproofing (or other protection) in itself will not be covered under warranty obviously BUT it will not void the natural warranty the vehicle has against rust.
