RRO Stage 1 Bumper and Lights Install

So. After 2 months of waiting patiently, my Stage 1 bumper kit from Rocky Road Outfitters arrived. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality AND the customer service. The package arrived horribly mangled by UPS, and the hardware and instructions had apparently fallen out onto the shipping room floor somewhere along the way. A quick phone call to RRO got me instructions emailed and a package of the hardware shipped out to me the same day.

The process was pretty straightforward, and bumper installation took me about 1.5 hours (I was plagued by drill batteries going flat constantly).

First step was drilling the holes through the bumper plastic and the steel crossmember under the bumper cover. On of the things I guess i failed to realize was that BETWEEN the bumper and steel crossmember is about 2" of rubbery, awful black foam. It slugs the drill up and is just generally no fun.

After drilling the holes through the bumper, foam, and crossmember - in go the steel sleeves.

You can reach the back of the whole thing by just reaching up underneath the front of the Jeep. The bolts are fastened with a plate that stretches between the two bolts, and nyloc nuts.

Bumper on!

Light install went super quick too. I got a pair of BlitzPro 3LRs, and put it together with a wiring harness off of Amazon. I'm glad I picked up this harness too - it was an OPT7 harness - really well made. Waterproof male and female connectors included. Made the whole thing go SUPER quick.

Lights mounted and test wiring just to make sure they work.

And the finished product!

I love the look. I've already seen some heads turn in parking lots when I roll up with the little lights burning. :D

They're a nice, even flood beam. Extends from the ditch on one side of the road to the ditch on the other, and all the way up into the trees.

And can you post more close up pics of how the lights are mounted and the wiring.
I'll get out there today and take some closeups for you. :)

The bumper has two metal tabs to mount lights on. You could probably mount up 4 lights but you would have to make brackets for them. I used the "OPT7 Off Road LED LIGHT Bar On-Off Power Switch 40 Amp Relay Wiring Harness (Dual Light Bar Harness)" from Amazon. It has two waterproof connectors, so if you wanted more than two lights you would have to modify the harness too.

If you were using a light bar, they make a harness of the same brand I got but with only one lead going to the lights - mine has 2 leads. The only thing you would need to change (if you were using conventional lights or LEDs) using a 40amp harness would be the fuse. The harness I got came with a 30amp fuse, but my lights draw WAY less than that - so to be safe I replaced it with a 10amp fuse that would burn out faster in the case of a short.

Looks good! The bumper kits and lights are awesome to upgrade our Pats from all the other ones on the road. If you want, feel free to add to the RRO Stage 1 thread in the Product Review section with your install. Or just add a picture since yours is red lol.

The four little indents where the normal front plate goes are covered up by the bumper entirely. There's no adapter, but i bet you could use the bolts for the bumper to hold a simple bracket... Or just shove it up underneath and screw it to the lower fascia. ;)

Not going to be any time soon for me to upgrade credit card bills have to get paid first before I can put more on them...

I wouldn't apply any torque to that bumper. While it may be a good tie down point for canoes, or a solid little piece to push things along with, I wouldn't trust it to hold weight. I would go through the dealer or RRO and get a pair of honest-to-god tow hooks and be safe.

To clarify - The steel bumper that the bolts run through is a hollow tube that is meant to crumple and absorb energy in a crash. It isnt a part of the frame - it's attached separately. The factory tow hooks have a much more solid installation point and are intended to bear the weight of our little Jeeps. :)

Very nice. I got the same kit last week and funny thing is that the box was also missing the mounting hardware and the instructions I received were for the winch mount bar. Quick call and they emailed me the install instructions and shipped the parts out the same day via UPS. Got everything Friday, just need to find the time to install it.
