I just did my plugs yesterday. About halfway down the coil pack tube was a darkened ring with just a barely perceptible minute amount of oil there. That must be the area where the valve cover gasket is and that ring/oil is just from fumes or something.

I don't agree with everything in this video, but it shows the ring at minute 2:40. Unless there is a noticeable amount of oil there, I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Mine looked like the coil pack in the first video but maybe a little more oil. I just wasn’t sure if it was a normal thing or something I should be worried about.

 

Generally when there is oil in the spark plug tube the valve cover gasket and tube orings are leaking. It will get worse if left unattended and it will also ruin your plug boots if they soak in the oil.

 

Thank you for the replies. How likely is it to cross thread the plugs? I hand tightened them to get them started then finished with a wrench with just a quarter or so turn after tight.

 

If that's how you installed the plugs, then they are not cross threaded.
