I'd move it back from the bumper a little farther and if there isn't already add some supports off to the left and right otherwise a hit to the side will probably cause more damage.

 

It looks like one of those reaction projects.

The one that comes to mind is the totally concrete mail box made by the guy that had his mail box vandalized one to many times.

 

no kidding. you're protecting your bumper from scratches and dents, presumably so it looks good? :icon_rolleyes:

sorry, I love home made projects, but a 2*8 protecting my bumper isn't going to happen. I'd rather scratch it up.

 

well it will be more like a tube brush guard almost. It will be made out of metal and won't be all filled in. Just imagine a brush guard for the rear. I dont know i got board and thought this would be a nice project to think about.

thanks thats dead on to what i was thinking. Maybe it would be better to buy one just because it has two mounting points. But at the same time can i but that on if i have a trailer hitch? Because it looks like it mounts to where the hitch dose

most of the damage I have from "brushes" are underneath the bumper, and on the sides of the doors.



is a brush guard for when you brush up against a shopping cart, or when you drive over brushes?

 

Doesn't matter really as long as it protects me from damage its doing its job no matter what its fending off. But back to my earlier question will the one that DJ XS shows work if you have a hitch installed because it looks like it uses the holes for the hitch?

 

That's very interesting. I'm too looking for a rear bumper guard. Just don't forget to cover the bumper corner.

 

I am not to sure driver 12. It seems that on that blue patriot, the rear guard is mounted where the hitch would go. Like I said that is not my patriot. I personally think it looks great, but i would like to keep a tow hitch also.

 

As would I. I have a trailer that i use a lot to tow my dirt bike and random things around so i dont want to lose that. But maybe when i make my bumper i can get longer bolts for the hitch and put the brackets on the out side from where the hitch mounts. That way i get to use both at the same time.
