I bought this on January 1, 2015 from the original owner - my sister - who bought it in January of 2009. When I bought it there were 90,212 miles on the clock - and it was delivered to my driveway immediately after having a new ball joint/control arm installed on the driver's side for the second time and having the "90,000 mile fluid service" completed.

Here it is immediately after I handed over the Certified Check and signed the title - it is in need of a wash, but this is still the "baby picture" as far as I'm concerned:
Image

I took care of some of the things not covered by the "90,000 mile service" including installing a new air filter and replacing the brake pads right off the bat.

My plan is to keep the modifications "mild"... so this thread may not be too exciting, but what the heck lets do it anyway ;)

Mods: (in order of most recently added)

Curt Trailer Hitch:

Bluetooth OBDII adapter and old Android phone to run Torque:

Plastidipped badges (excuse the salt spots on the hood... only had one car wash since the snow started to melt so there is still some residue):

Muffler Painted with Black BBQ Grill Paint:

Swapped in 2010 lighted cup holders:

Rockford Fosgate R169X3 speakers:

--

Added Rugged Ridge Floormats and new rear hatch lifts were the first "mods" I did... mats are dirty from salt and snow - I'll put up a better picture in the spring!:

--

Strong Arm Hatch lifts (just to show part number in case anyone needs to order them):
Image

--

LED Interior lights and reverse lights (no photos worth sharing)

--

LED license plate bulbs (comparison photo on very salty license plate):
Image

--

Cargo net set - the flat net and the "envelope" net (I put a bottle in there to show the net better):
Image

--

Stubby antenna that I picked up on a whim at the local parts store:
Image

--

Not really a mod - but when I got the car it had an issue with the parking lights not coming on - here is a thread detailing that experience: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273682
Turned out I had a broken wire on one side and half dead bulb on the other side... as well as the incorrect socket on the driver side, which was fixed - that is outlined here: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273809

Suspension & Tires:
N/A

Performance:
N/A

In Progress:
N/A

Planned mods:
1) Lighted Window/Lock Switches - once I get get out to a salvage yard to scavenge for some
2) Roof Rails - these are a "probably" mod... not sure how necessary they will end up being
3) Roof basket - this is a "maybe" mod

Over the weekend I was trying to track down a squeaking/metal scraping metal sound... I ruled out suspension stuff by jacking up the car and pushing things around and inspecting for anything that looked like it was rubbing - everything was properly coated in road salt and dirt so there were no obvious problems. Then it occurred to me that the screws from the rear cargo envelope posts stuck through pretty far and might be contacting the metal in the trunk area.
Quick inspection revealed that there was definitely some rubbing:
Image

I cut a couple of squares of velcro to add some padding to the area after my first plan of using spare valve stem caps ended in a valve stem cap now residing somewhere behind the panel...
Image

Didn't really change the sound any, so that wasn't the cause... but at least I know I'm not rubbing through my paint anymore!
I'm not really worried about the noise, just wanted to make sure nothing was going to break off on me.

Today I ordered some different interior LED bulbs with 6 lights on them instead of 3 like the ones I have now, a set of LED license plate bulbs, LED backup lights, 4 Rockford Fosgate R1693 speakers, and the wiring harnesses for the speakers. I really need to stay away from the internet when I'm all caught up at work and don't have any patients...

Swapped out my first set of LED interior lights for a set with 6 emitters... the set came with 6 of the festoon style bulbs and 4 license plate bulbs. Unfortunately it did NOT come with a smaller festoon bulb for the cargo area light.

Set:

New vs Old:

The new bulbs obviously have more emitters... but I thought it was odd that they had no heat sink. The old ones (as you can see) had huge heat sinks built in, and they got really hot. Kind of makes me wonder if the new ones will be more likely to burn out quickly.

Installed them - and they are certainly brighter than the old bulbs! I tried using an app on my phone to measure the difference in lux - but it wasn't giving numbers that made sense so I decided not to bother.

The license plate bulbs look like this:

Easy to install... removing the old bulb was easy to do when I had the thought of wrapping a little strip of duct tape around the bulb to grip it and yank it out.

Here is a comparison of the standard bulb vs LED bulb:

IIRC, I replaced all of mine with the same 4x4 leds
You guys were right, I was able to use the same bulb in the rear/cargo area light. I just had to bend the tabs out a little bit to fit the longer bulb in, but it snapped into place just fine. REALLY lights up the cargo area nicely.

Size difference was pretty minor as far as length of the bulb - but light output difference is HUGE!:D

The rear light on mine is the "flashlight" dome light that pops out... I don't know of that is the same still. My first set came with a smaller bulb, I didn't really try to see if the big one fits...
I'm won't get a chance to check until Friday, then I'll post up info ;)

Finally home from a week in St Lucia... and I came home to a bunch of goodies waiting for me!
I totally forgot about the lighted cup holders - but they are here now, my speakers were waiting for me, and my LED reverse bulbs are here. Saturday is going to be a fun day once I get unpacked! Unfortunately a rum bottle was shattered in my bag... So unpacking may be more time consuming than planned :(

I really want to pull out the center console and try the cup holders right now - but it is 2am and I really should go to sleep! LOL!

Expect an excessive amount of pictures Saturday ;)

Bad news already... I opened the box my speakers came in - and found only ONE SET of speakers!

I've already emailed OnlineCarStereo about it with a picture of the freshly opened box containing one set speakers. The description stated that speakers were sold in pairs unless noted otherwise - ordering "2" should give me 2 sets unless my math is wrong. I'm hoping they will be able to quickly remedy the situation

Thanks. Never dealt with this company before, but I'm hopeful.

It never does does it... 9:00pm "Honey I'm going out to wire my winch be back in an hour or two. 2:00am."Well that took longer than expected."
LOL! Been there many times... I've always found it best to estimate a time, then multiply it by 3 to 5 :D

Got the exploded rum residue cleaned off my scuba gear... and sort of unpacked... maybe it is time to tackle some of the fun for the day!

Alrighty... that was EASY! Just installed the lighted cup holders... would have been a 5 minute job if I hadn't misplaced my torx bit set. I had put it SOMEWHERE so that when I did this job I would know where it was. No clue where that could be, luckily I had a spare T20 bit sitting in another tool box.

Did a write up on it here: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1281321#post1281321

Final result looks like this:

Thanks!

This is awesome, I have lighted cup holders, but now that I can see how stuff is taken apart, i'm going to illuminate the glove box in the center.
Glad to be of some help :)
That sounds like a cool idea - would be pretty simple if you just came off the harness that goes to the cup holders.

Just got done installing the 2 speakers that did show up - fairly easy job... but the plastic rim on the speakers (the RF model everyone suggests) really gets in the way of tightening the screws down much. Seems to hold solidly enough though - and they sound nice. Hoping the company sends me the other 2 without any hassle .

Also swapped in the LED reverse lights, easy enough to do after I noticed that the wires on the base of the bulb were in the wrong spots and flipped them around to match the stock bulb!

No pictures of that... hard to see in the daytime ;)

Just got off the phone with Online Car Stereo .com - after being hung up on twice when selecting the "Customer Service" option from the phone tree menu I tried the "Sales" option and actually got to speak to someone. He gave me an email address to send some photos of the order to so they can determine if the items were actually missing.

Hopefully this gets handled quickly... but I'm not sure how confident I am that it will given the "customer service" hangups!

We'll see! I guess I should have just bought them from Amazon and paid the extra $10.

how much do the Rugged Ridge Floormats costs, whered you get them , and are they any close to as good for like 20 $, or inexpensive as can be, like at wal mart?

#31 ·
I paid $89 for them on Amazon, it appears the price went up quite a bit though - here is a link: [ame]http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JEUHSXY[/ame]

I would guess that you aren't going to find anything close for $20 - these are custom cut for the Patriot and the rubber is quite heavy duty.

Thanks.

Thanks for the link. On my current budget, thats a bit steep, might have to just get some inexpensive ones or just wait

if you dont mind how much did you buy your riot from your sister?
Yeah, they're pricey now... $89 was a little hard to swallow until they arrived and I realized they were worth every penny. Probably wouldn't have bought them if they had been $130+ like they are now.

I paid $6500 for it, but since she had the "90,000 mile service" done on it before dropping it off at my house it is as if I only paid $6k for it since I would have had to spend that $500 anyway to get the fluids all changed out. Bottom end of the blue book value for trade in value was right around $6500-7000 when we looked, so that's all she wanted for it. If I didn't take it she was just going to use it as a trade in on her new Cherokee.

Not to hijack the thread, John I have Mopar slush mats for sale if you're interested in the Outpost section.
Hijacker!! :D

Good news this evening - online car stereo came though and is shipping me the second set of speakers. Looks like they will be here middle of next week.
Their communication via email is poor which is ironic for an online store, but in the end it seems like it is working out.

Really should have gone through Amazon in the first place ;)
