We've been in a 2017 Patriot for about a year n' a half now. Really liking the vehicle. What we also really like is tent camping. Wife n' I have been at that for about 30 years. Among other amazing things that Texas offers she provides a great state park system. Within 100 miles or so of San Antonio we've got 10 or more awesome state campgrounds. Lakes, rivers, woodlands - whatever topography fits your taste.

Out Patriot is the 2-liter 4 with a CVT so we're not doing any slam-bang off-road trail cutting stuff... Just relaxed drive-in tenting at sweet state parks. We, when available, stick to "water only" sites to weed out the RV crowd - no fun camping in a trailer park. As it's just us and the dog we can drop the back seats and that provides a really more than adequate cargo bay. I've augmented that with a roof basket for soft sided stuff.

Last season, to break in the Pat, we did a couple of nights at Garner. So far this year we've done Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon. Planning Lost Maples or Pedernales next month. Our MO is two nights when we go...

We're not quite Glampers... But close. Queen raised airbed in a an 8'X'16' … Lot of little adds here and there... Like I said - been at it 30 years.

Great cooking the past couple of times out! Found an awesome marinade for both chicken and pork - www.modernhoney.com/the-best-chicken-marinade-recipe/ and it cooks up perfect on a super collapsible grill that I found on amazon - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DNTXCMI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Don't know if any other Patriot owners are interested in sharing their camping experiences but thought I'd start a thread to test the waters... The worst day camping is better than the best day working...

Welcome, qlcantu! Glad you found us. Looks like you're making the most of your Patriot.

Glampers! I just learned a new word. However, I understood the definition from an experience my Wife and I had some years ago. We'd done a week of primitive camping and whitewater canoeing between campsites on the St. John River in northern Maine. The last day we got to Allagash where we had a campsite with the modern convenience of an outhouse (that was older than we were). Don't ya know along comes what you call a glamper -- a perfectly nice older couple with a luxurious camper -- when they put up the awning with the string of lights around the fringe our little group laughed so hard we were in tears. Maybe it was just the exhaustion of a week on the river and some early summer heat, but it stands as the best belly laugh I've had since puberty.

Camping

Hi Ignatz… Our philosophy has always been that if you're not in a tent you're not camping - Maybe you're RV'ing or 5th-Wheeling or whatever you want to call it but it's not camping. That doesn't mean you can't have creature comforts... The fan in our tent might be battery powered but it's still a fan... (Plus all the camping gizmos, whatchamacallits and stuff I can assemble feed my Tim-the-toolman side...)

We're always looking forward to our next trip...

Went primitive camping on private property in Virginia recently.

Basically set up camp friday, did Peter's Mill Run saturday, then packed up sunday. Still in the figuring out what works best for me stage of my setup, it's a bit "glampy", but it was nice to have a hot meal at the end of the day.

Lots of neat camp setups there; a couple ground tents, a few rooftop tents and one guy who slept in the back of his KL. I personally had an Alps Mountaineering tent with an Ozark privacy shelter, and slept on a Thermarest Ridge Rest with a sleeping bag. Kinda wished the bag was larger but otherwise it was actually the best night's rest I've had in maybe years. :surprise:

Hi Flameware… Gorgeous camping area... Doesn't look glampy to me - looks just right! I like the little privy tent... I've almost pulled the trigger on getting one of those a couple of times in the past... How big is the carry bag for yours? Although the campgrounds we frequent all have bathrooms and most have hot/cold showers, at 3:00 o'clock in the morning it'd be nice to take care of business without having to walk down the road or stumble off into the surrounding woods...
