Ok, are those the same car critics that also say that hyundays are the best cars ever built in the whole galaxy and the elantra is the best car in the universe??

Also, did anyone realized that before you get to the text itself there is a huge ad from a car brand that is not mentioned in the text. But they actually lost me when they tell people to avoid the wrangler because of loud wind noise at highway speeds and lack of sofistication... What do they think the wrangler is, a grocery getter?? A soccer mom van??

Anyways, thanks for sharing the article. It is always good to know what people is talking out there about the jeeps :)

About the only vehicle I agree with is the smart... that is a pretty poor car for america... There are a lot of cars that offer more room/speed/space/ with the same/similar/better fuel economy for the same or less money.
I've owned a colorado, and its a pretty good small truck, my parents have a kizashi, and its a great car. even with a company leaving the US. for the price they are selling them at, if you keep your car a long time, its a great deal. And of course I love my patriot.

I'm going to come running to the Smart ForTwo's defense here. That car is a very niche market. Outside of that niche it doesn't make sense, but if you are within the niche it is a great vehicle. However that niche is a very very tiny niche. I will say I would buy a used one. Figure around $8k, newish car with a glass roof and decent fuel economy, but the kicker.... it's the only car I could fit behind my TJ in the garage. Any other economy car I would need to decide what I'm going to park outside.

I've driven one, i found it to be "fun" in a strange way. it's slow (but fast enough for commuting), the transmission is horrible, but overall it's a nice place to spend 30 - 45 minutes a day.

If it isn't German or Asian built car magazines almost never give a positive review. I am too smart to let some magazine tell me what is and isn't a good vehicle. The Patriot gives more value for the dollar spent than ANY vehicle I have ever owned and most definitely more than any vehicle in it's class.

I don't expect it to be a powerhouse nor do I expect it to be a luxury class vehicle either. I expect it to be roomy, good in bad weather/off road, and to return good MPG. It has done all of that and actually returned AMAZING MPG!

Couldn't be happier with the Patriot for what it is. Militaristic styling and all.

** WARNING! Minorly vulgar statement bellow! **

Lol I see what you did there csowers :p

*Edit: yah I agree...I've had my Pat for 8 weeks now as of today and I love every damn thing about it. I'd never trade it in for another hot off the manufacturers shelf vehicle. Even with that new 10th Aniversary Rubicon coming out next year that I'm drooling over, I am still going to be loyal to 'Lee-Roy'...you know why? FUEL ECONOMY AND CARGO SPACE. I have 5 16" TJ Rubicon wheels in my cargo area right now and still have space for other items (not a lot but quite a bit). Sure I have to force the door to shut but it does; and everything is still safe back there. Me and my passengers have all the head and leg room you'd ever want in a CUV and I am definitely not complaining about the styling of it. Jeep did wonder's with the Pat in my opinion and I hope that they continue to do well in the CUV/SUV market for decades to come! Forbes and the rich bastards who read it and give 2 sh!ts about it's opinions can suck it!

*Edit #2: Oh! And my buddy who has a 07 GC 2wd rode with me to pick up my rims and said that my 2.4L has more get up than his V6 does ;) In the words of Linkin Park...F*ck critics, you can kiss our whole ass holes.

Yuuup, the 3.7 is a dog, sounds more like a vacuum cleaner on high!
The Pat is more comfortable than the Cherokee and maybe as quick....loved my '89 so I'm not putting either one down. The Blazers sucked and so did that Vortex V6 they had. The Bronco IIs were just awful. Hyundai doesn't even have a 4x4 with any off-road credentials, the Rav4 is cheeeeeap!
And when did you ever see a Q anything in the dirt? Never.
In fact, I was driving Audis before the Cherokee and never looked back.

Having done the NY thruway from SoJersey to Sugarbush for longer than I can remember, some of the death marches we did with any of our 'big' Jeeps
were with no one else on the road.

In Hunter, NY for the superstorm in March '93 and after shoveling out we shared the whole mountain with about 30 other souls. Schweet!
Drove back that sunday and cars and such were still sitting on the NJ Parkway where their owners abandoned them, it wasn't even plowed yet. Glad we hadn't gone all the way to VT on that one. Even the Jersey turnpike was one lane.

Call me biased, but the dolts at Forbes need to get the wax out of their ears and do some offroading.

I agree, best value and return for what most of us were looking for, versatility.

I still get a good laugh out of that Q5 v Patriot comparison some time back.
Lambo v Corvette? I'll take the C5 even over a C6 even. Subjective? Call me biased.

Forbes advertising, whoever pays the bills!

So far so good with my pat. Gets better than advertised fuel economy and gets me through the rough stuff in the mountains. It was 20k well spent. The only thing it has to live up to is how much I can sell it when I am done with it and moving on to bigger better things.

All you guys getting worked up over an op-ed from some guy :)

This Website is JeepPatriot.com not Politics.com or Butchers.com. It is a Jeep Patriot Website and the Members are just defending their Jeep Patriots. Who cares what Forbes says and besides what the %^(# do they know ? Why do they bother to mention anything about the Patriot ? They can pack it where the sun don't shine.....:D:wow:

Forbes has to cater to its perceived readership: well monied snobs who need to impress the parking valet at the opera house and their croonies at the "club". Forbes' playbook is CR mag who kowtows to speedy Toyota.

Forbes bemoaned the plain interior. We happen to find good utility in plastic: kids and pet proof.

They all point to the low resale value of Chrysler products which is only half true. Remember Chrysler marketing tactic always give deep discounts from its MSRP. So comparing resale value to MSRP is grossly misleading.

Let their readership continue to support the high-priced repair businesses for those fabled German and Japanese brands.

Anyway, our family is still very happy with our Riot: a very versatile SUV (U for real utility).

Ya, just think of the reaction among the "monied snobs" if Forbes had given the Patty a glowing review over a MB or BMW. Those poor bastards, their world would be turned upside down. They'd be falling all over themselves getting to a Jeep dealer to be the first on their block to own a Patty. Monkey see, monkey do in that world.....lol

These desk-jockeys don't have a clue about vehicles in the real world. If it doesn't please them commuting to NYC every day then its a bad vehicle.

Which other vehicles have this much interior space, cargo capacity, fuel-efficiency, highway comfort, off-road capability, and cost under $20,000? "Oh, uh, we didn't consider those aspects . . . "

I stopped clicking through when I saw they had the Wrangler in there. I love when reviewers criticize the ride quality....as if the Wrangler would even show up on your radar if a cushy smooth vehicle was your priority.

Also I could have went with the "superior" Patriot competition had I wanted a tapered turd soccer mom looking crossover like every other one on the road.

the patriot (compass now too) are the only small SUV's that have ANY off road crappy road capability. the rest are cars that are little tin cans. I had my patriot in tangly places before, and look at expedition west's test of the pat.....no way a rav, crv, or any of its competitors could follow the pat in those trails! Jeep for me thanks.

Plus the Patriot still creams the competition in over all cost of use, cradle to grave.

I can't remember where i read this so I can't link it but taking into account the true costs of running, insuring, maintaining, repairing, purchasing and fuelling a vehicle the Patriot is low, low.

I keep records as I use mine for work, comparing almost a full year of the Patriot to my old XL7 I'm way ahead, less insurance, fuel, repairs and everything.

Plus lots of new car depreciation (in a year-end, tax kind of way) puts me absolutely way ahead.

these car critics find anything other than a Porsche or Ferrari "underpowered" and anything but a Rolls Royce or Maybach "poorly appointed".
We all know the value our Riots have out here in the real world.
